Subject: I Love Old Ireland Still From: Brakn Date: 17 Mar 00 - 11:01 PM Sang this tonight and was informed that I've missed a verse out. Does anyone have the missing verse? Below is what I know. Show me the man who does not love the land where he was born Who does not look on it with pride no matter how forelorn I only know that I have mine, I long again to see Invaders banished from our shores and Ireland once more free Chorus Let friends all turn against me Let the foe say what they will For my heart is in my country I love old Ireland still There's not an Irishman today would ever wish to roam If he can work by honest toil within his native home So give us back our liberty let our banners be unfurled And Ireland and her sons shall be a credit to the world Mick Bracken |
Subject: Lyr Add: I LOVE OLD IRELAND STILL From: Frank Maher Date: 18 Mar 00 - 03:51 PM I LOVE OLD IRELAND STILL Where is the man that does not love the land where he was born, Who does not think of it with pride, no matter how forlorn? I only know that I love mine, and long again to see Oppression from it banished, and old Ireland once more free. CHORUS: Let friends all turn against me, let foes say what they will, My heart is with my country. I love old Ireland still. You'll find no better island if you search the wide world o'er; And yet she's sneered at and despised, because her offspring's poor! If she could only have the wealth that lies beneath her soil, She'd once more prosper, and her sons might live by honest toil. There's not an Irishman today would ever wish to roam Into a foreign land to live, if he could live at home. Then give her liberty, and let her banner be unfurled, Then Ireland and her sons may prove a credit to the world. AMEN |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: I Love Old Ireland Still From: GUEST,Matt Kavanah Date: 12 Apr 07 - 02:58 PM Brakn mo chara, thank you very much for posting the chords. Tonight I dig out the guitar and set about learning this tune. Folks, I will be making a home recorded album of rebel songs - folksy and grainy sound to the recording in all probability - to raise funds to directly support the families of Republican POWs. This song in particular was requested so, again, thank you very much. Slan, Matt Kavanah Boston, MA Tiocfaidh ar La |

Let friends all turn against me Let the fools say what they will For my heart is in my country And I love old Ireland still You'll find no greater land than ours if you search the world o'er; Although she's laughed at and despised, because her offspring's poor! But if the sons could only get the wealth beneath her soil They'd once again would prosper and live by honest toil. Let friends all turn against me Let the fools say what they will For my heart is in my country And I love old Ireland still There's not an Irishman today would ever wish to roam Into a foreign land to live, if he could work at home. So give to us our liberty, let our tricolour be unfurled, And Ireland and her sons would prove a credit to the world. Let friends all turn against me Let the fools say what they will For my heart is in my country And I love old Ireland still |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: I Love Old Ireland Still (from D Warfield From: Jim Dixon Date: 04 Oct 11 - 08:01 PM The oldest printed copy I can find is in Irish Come-All-Ye's by Manus O'Conor (New York: L. Lipkind, 1901), page 131. The title given there is I LOVE OLD IRELAND STILL. It gives no author attribution and no tune. Lyrics are identical to those posted by Frank Maher above. |
