Subject: Lyrics req. The Albino, Pink-Eyed Sta From: GUEST,Lee Date: 14 Sep 00 - 11:16 PM I'm looking for the lyrics of the song, done by Marvin Rainwater, of The Albino, Pink-Eyed Stallion. Any help appreciated. Lee |
Subject: RE: Lyrics req. The Albino, Pink-Eyed Sta From: katlaughing Date: 15 Sep 00 - 12:02 AM Hi, Lee, I see we didn't find this for you last time, either, huh? Sorry about that. I went to the search engine www.google.com and found a bunch of links for him, just by typing in his name in the keyword search box. One of them said they had his mailing addy. I didn't have time to look at all of them, for the lyrics you are looking for, but I'll bet if you look you may find someone who knows them. As for what he is doing, I did find this article, CLICK HERE which is from 1998, says he was 73, at the time, and is performing again. So! There ya go, hope this helps. katlaughing |
Subject: RE: Lyrics req. The Albino, Pink-Eyed Sta From: katlaughing Date: 15 Sep 00 - 01:41 PM Anybody else? Any info on this song? |
Subject: RE: Lyrics req. The Albino, Pink-Eyed Sta From: katlaughing Date: 16 Sep 00 - 01:33 AM Hi, again, Lee. I did a bit more searching and was able to find the official "Marvin Rainwater" website. It invites people to email him, directly, so I'll bet he'd be happy to send you the lyrics if you ask. The first page takes a while to load, then you click on the picture to get into the site. The email link is near the bottom, so keep scrolling, there are a lot of things on that page, but it loads fairly quickly. Good luck, here is the LINK. |
Subject: RE: Lyrics req. The Albino, Pink-Eyed Sta From: GUEST,Lee Date: 16 Sep 00 - 08:09 PM To: Kat/Katlaughting, Thanks for the info. and the efforts. We followed to the site as you suggested. After some long searching, we found the actual song in The Record Lady's site, on her Focus on Marvin Rainwater. http://members.spree.com/entertainment/recordlady/rain/,htm We downloaded the Real Audio player, but were unable to play the song on it -- we kept getting an "invalid file" message. So it's there, but we can't access it. As you can tell, we're new to this! Thanks again, Lee & Chris |
Subject: RE: Lyrics req. The Albino, Pink-Eyed Sta From: katlaughing Date: 16 Sep 00 - 08:30 PM Glad to hear you found it, Lee & Chris. Sounds as though you are learning quickly; something we all had to do at some point with all of this new technology. I went to that site (by the way, you had the addy slightly off; at the end, it should read: rain.htm) and listened to the song. It is a GREAT song. I also downloaded it. When I have time, in the next day or two, I will transcribe the words for you and post them here. I am not sure why you weren't able to listen to it, unless you tried to type in the file name, instead of just clicking on it, as I did. Try again, sometimes these things are just "off" and if you try later they may work. If you can post a bit of what steps you go through, one of us might be able to help you figure it out. Anyway, watch this space and I will get the words for you. Thanks for keeping up with your search. This is a really neat song and I am glad to have heard it. kat |
Subject: RE: Lyrics req. The Albino, Pink-Eyed Sta From: GUEST,Lee & Chris Date: 17 Sep 00 - 06:16 PM To kat/katlaughing, Whoopee!!! It works!!!! We had downloaded the Real Audio 8 Player, but had neglected to open it, so our computer was trying to read The Albino with the Adobe Acrobat program. We just learned a great deal about program files! Thanks so much for the offer of help. We now have the words, neatly typed up. Now for Marvin Rainwater: My first taste of Marvin Rainwater was about late 1953, perhaps early 1954, when he starred on the Arthur Godfrey show on TV, although I believe I had heard "Find Me a Bluebird" prior to that. I still have a 78 of "Tennessee Hound Dog Yodel", well played, but in fair condition. I've had a great deal of fun playing it for my educated acquaintances and seeing reactions ranging from "I don't believe this" to "Good God!" Some people just don't recognize talent. I'm happy to find another intelligent country music buff in yourself. Thanks again for the help. Lee |
Subject: RE: Lyrics req. The Albino, Pink-Eyed Sta From: katlaughing Date: 17 Sep 00 - 07:15 PM Oh, Lee & Chris, that is good! I am not really a country music buff, nor all that intelligent, BUT I do know how to use the internet; I was raised on all kinds of music and like most; really DO enjoy the OLD stuff; and, always have a lot of fun when I can help someone find a song. BTW, I do have a friend who knew all about Marvin, as he grew up in a family of radio professionals and one of his uncles was a top exec. at one of the old 78 record companys. Got one new release everytime they put them out. My friend inherited the collection and has one of almost everybody who came out on 78, including Marvin, BUT he hadn't heard of this one! It's a rare day when I can stump him! I sent him the link so he can hear it, too. If you like the old Victrola music, here's another site you might enjoy, full of audio files and with cassette tapes for sale: Old Victrola music. Have fun and thanks a bunch. BTW, if you'd like to post those words, that would be great, just include them in a posting to this thread. To do the line breaks, just type in a "less-than" arrow, then type the letters, "br" (without the quotation marks), then type the "more-than" arrow, at the end of each line. There is more on how to do that in the permathread at the top, Mudcat FAQS. Why don't you join us as members? It doesn't cost anything and you will have the advantage of being able to send and receive private messages, as well as put a "trace" on a thread, so that it will always be listed on your personal page, easy to access and updated each time someone posts to it. If you have a microphone, or just want to listen, you could always join us in HearMe, on Sundays at 730EST, for a virtual song circle. We take turns singing and playing for one another and we come from all over the globe. It is a lot of fun and has a text chat to go along with it. Just click on any of the HearMe links which are in any HearMe thread, and there is a small, very quick download the first time, then you will be in there. If you have any trouble, just holler. One of us will help. Thanks, again. Glad you were successful. Take care, kat |
Subject: Lyr Add: ALBINO (PINK EYED) STALLION (M Rainwater) From: GUEST,Lee & Chris Date: 18 Sep 00 - 12:32 AM THE ALBINO
In Arizona's desert lores
CHORUS: That albino, pink-eyed stallion,
At night in the canyons all alone,
You drunks and gamblers laugh at me.
Without a goal, no man is whole.
This was recorded by Marvin Rainwater in 1953 or 1954. The sound of the stallion neighing is done with his own voice -- an eerie effect! |

Subject: RE: Lyrics req. The Albino, Pink-Eyed Sta From: GUEST,Lee Date: 20 Sep 00 - 12:08 AM Hi Kat: A question re. HearMe. Is that 7:30 EST A.M. or P.M.? If it's early morning, I don't hear good and sing worse.
|
Subject: RE: Lyrics req. The Albino, Pink-Eyed Sta From: katlaughing Date: 20 Sep 00 - 12:13 AM It's P.M., Lee, most Mudcatters don't even have an eye open at that time in the A.M., I don't think!**BG** Check it out in the permathread at the top of the thread, Mudcat FAQS. If you scroll down through there, you will find more info on it. See ya there, I hope! kat |
Subject: RE: Lyrics req. The Albino, Pink-Eyed Sta From: GUEST,Lee Date: 20 Sep 00 - 12:37 AM Me again Kat: Just to spice the Rainwater legend up a bit, is anyone out there familiar with his "Teabag Romeo"? Or remember who it was dedicated to? |
Subject: RE: Lyrics req. The Albino, Pink-Eyed Sta From: katlaughing Date: 20 Sep 00 - 12:52 AM Do you have the info, Lee? If not, let's start another thread about that one. That way, if it is in the title, along with Marvin's name, it might catch the eye of someone who might not think to come into this thread. It sounds like another good one! T'anks! kat |
Subject: RE: Lyrics req. The Albino, Pink-Eyed Sta From: GUEST,Lee Date: 20 Sep 00 - 12:13 PM Mornin' Kat. If my memory serves me right, "Teabag" is on the flip side of "Tennessee Hounddog Yodel". I was watching the show on TV when Marvin took about ten minutes off stage to go to his dressing room and write the complete song, then come on stage and sing it. A clue to the dedication is "Redhead" Right now I'm going to go and dig up the box of 78s that I think this gem is in.(I wonder if anyone ever gets addicted to playing with a computer? Nah, couldn't happen.) Llllllllleeeeee Talk about brilliant! Took a while but I just listened to "Tea Bag", (it is two words), and "Hound Dog",(also two words). L |
Subject: RE: Lyrics req. The Albino, Pink-Eyed Sta From: katlaughing Date: 20 Sep 00 - 01:52 PM Well, Lee, that is great! Now, how about sharing those ones, too? That is what the DigiTrad depends on, you know, all of us seekers putting in what we know.*BG* As long as you put the Lyr Add in the subject line, with the song title, this thread would be okay to do it in. It would be helpful if you let Joe et al know, by posting the name of the thread to the Add Lyrics thread. If you have trouble finding it, let me know. Say! When are you going to join up & become a full-fledged member? It doesn't cost a thing; ya don't have to take a pledge; and, it's kind of handy for personal messaging, etc. Good work and about the addition thing...pretty soon we will introduce you to the 12 Step Mudcat Addiction program....all 12 Steps teach you how to bring more people to the site who can be swallowed up in the glory of Folk Addiction ala Mudcat! **Big Grin** kat |
Subject: RE: Lyrics req. The Albino, Pink-Eyed Sta From: Metchosin Date: 20 Sep 00 - 02:31 PM Lee, another Marvin Rainwater fan here, particularly of Hound Dog Yodel, as my family raised them (Bluetick Coonhounds and others, when I was young) I was always familiar with Going To Find Me A Bluebird but I hadn't heard Hound Dog Yodel until a few months back and was so excited about it, I had to phone my brother at work to send him the file. So not all look at you in a weird manner when you play that cut for them, although I must admit my husband started looking at me sideways after I had played the song about thirty times in a row. I have added it to my collection of recordings of This Old House. I'm glad you found the Pink Eyed Stallion, sounds like another great song and I will definitely check it out. |
