Subject: Great Lakes area, North America question From: GUEST,maire Date: 05 Nov 01 - 07:37 PM Dear folks, Does anybody out there remember a radio program from the 50s or 60s, that was a country/religious program. We listened to it on WJR 760 on Sunday mornings, and I think it had the word 'Gathering' in the title. (Of course, I was just a small child at the time.) Also, does anybody know anything about where it was broadcast from, etc. Thank you for any information you can supply. PS: I did look in the forum, but I didn't find any references, altho I didn't have much to go on for a search. |

Subject: RE: BS: Great Lakes area, North America question From: GUEST, Zane Prosser Date: 06 Nov 01 - 04:13 AM Guest, Maire, The show you heard was the " Renfro Valley Gathering" from Renfro Valley, Kentucky. It first aired on 8 September, 1943 and was transmitted over telephone lines to Radio Station WHAS, Louisville, Kentucky where it was sent on to the CBS network. Radio Station WJR, Detroit Michigan, was one of the stations That carried the show from the network. There is also a show on Saturday night from Renfro Valley called the "Renfro Valley Barn Dance". It started in 1939 and is still going today. I used to listen To The "Renfro Valley Gathering too,in my younger days. Zane Prosser |
Subject: RE: BS: Great Lakes area, North America question From: Joe Offer Date: 06 Nov 01 - 04:30 AM Looks like the show is still broadcasting - Click here for its website. By the way, WJR still carries the program. I was born in Detroit and used to listen to the radio station, but never to this show (which did not originate in Detroit). -Joe Offer- |
