Subject: RE: REQ: Bridge Over the River Kwai From: Phideaux Date: 18 Feb 98 - 07:53 AM The tune is "Colonel Bogey" march by a guy named Alford. My wifes parrot does a good job of whistling it. Whenever the movie is on TV she is all ears(the bird, not my wife) Bob Schwarer |

Date: 18 Feb 98 - 10:18 AM Another song (or series of songs) that used the tune, besides the Hitler's ball version, is the "Comet will make you vomit" version. This has also been discussed in the forum at length during the past year. Note that these songs are all parodies. I don't know of any original words to the march. It would surprise me to learn that there were any. |
Subject: RE: REQ: Bridge Over the River Kwai From: Bruce O. Date: 18 Feb 98 - 02:17 PM I long ago read an article in some historical magazine published in Nebraska that the tune was by a former military band leader whose name I can't remember. He was an imigrant originally to Baltimore, and lost the position he first applied for, leader of General Custer's band. He latter settled in Nebraska, composing, teaching music and forming a band known as the 'Shawnee? Souix'. This band was said to have gone to Washington, DC, and played for the president. The article, as I recall, didn't give any precise date for the composition of "Col. Bogey's March", but took Col. Bogey to be a real person. Sorry I can't remember more details, or give a precise reference to the magazine. It was in possesion of one of my uncles, also a member of a military band in WWI. |
