Subject: Need to slow down MP3s...
From: Clinton Hammond

... without changing pitch...

I think someone here once posted a url to a program that would do it, but if I bookmarked it, I put it somewhere where I'd be able to find it, so now of course I can't...

Little help anyone??

Slow Down Moses

I've not tried it but it says it will do what you want, and its freeware.

Freeware my ass!

All the options are disablecd in unregistered versions...

Anyone else got anything else, while I try to hack this program?

Well I just downloaded it myself to see, and it worked.

The interface is terrible, you have to click on the guitar in the top left corner to get a 'menu'

You also need to play with the 'faders' to get something approching acceptable sound quality. Depends what you want to use it for.

Look for the arrow on the controls-- it takes you to an "open fle" dialog box.

But all I got was chipmunks.

CH, if you solve this, will you PM me? I need it too and I will be away for a few days over the weekend... OK?

~Susan

Clinton -

I had a reference in a text file to Subject: RE: Help: Music-slowing software

Not sure I reconstructed the clicky right, but you should be able to find the thread with the title.

You can download WinAmp, if you don't already have it, here:

http://www.winamp.com/
, then get Pacemaker (a WinAmp plugin) here:

http://www.iki.fi/oparviai/pacemaker

I also recommend another WinAmp plugin, Loop Master, which allows you to 'mark' small pieces of music for repetitive practice. It's here:

http://www.companyinfo.com/LoopMaster/

Just one caveat: Pacemaker, at least, requires that the sound file be on the hard disk. It won't work with sound coming from a CD or record. But it's fairly easy to record to your hard disk.

His next post said: "BTW, all the above programs are free."

This may be the thread you were looking for?

John

Clinton, We had a thread on this subject. As I recall you can use WinAmp together with the Loop Master WinAmp plugin and another program called Total Recorder that sits between your devices and your media controls. I downloaded the pieces to try out the slow playback. I've got the pieces installed but I've been too busy to try it out.

I'll hunt around to see if I can find the thread where these were recommended.

Total Recorder, which isn't free (costs $11.95 US to register) isn't needed for Clinton's dilemma. The programs excerpted by JohnInKansas above would do the job. The only thing a recorder is needed for is to get the file on the hard disk, and TR isn't needed for that, any recorder would do. Besides, since Clinton mentioned MP3 files, they probably would already be on his hard drive. The main use of TR is to record streaming audio from the net through software, since the sound card would already be tied up playing the audio.

One nice thing about Pacemaker is that it will speed up or slow down the playback without changing pitch, change pitch without changing the playback speed or any combination of these two. I use it regularly for changing music done by female vocalists into a key comfortable for me, as well as slowing things down for practice purposes.

Clinton
Try Pacemaker from here
http://members.fortunecity.com/oip/pacemaker/
I used it to correct the speed when I had to record some old 78's at a different speed. A doddle to use, free and only about 56K.
