Subject: RE: BS: Handy guitar From: C-flat Date: 02 Oct 02 - 08:46 AM That's amazing! Next we'll have guitars that are programmed to play pre-loaded pieces! |
Subject: RE: BS: Handy guitar From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 02 Oct 02 - 09:45 AM Whale oil beef hooked!!! My mechanical genius friend Fred talked about building a self-tuning tailpiece apparatus for guitar about twelve years ago, but never went anyplace with it. (He patented a new capo design and got rich off of that instead.) I love that they mention on the testimonials page that Paul Allen of Microsoft owns own of their guitars. I thought Paul Allen has at least one of every guitar ever built. That boy has the world's worst case of GAS. But, hell, he can afford it. |
Subject: RE: BS: Handy guitar From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 02 Oct 02 - 11:08 AM Amazing stuff. I note they don't give any indication of price. I suspect this'll be expensive at this stage anyway. I also suspect it'll not have too good an effect on the people using it. It takes years to really get to be at home with any tuning, and they are going to be tempted to play around with hundreds... Let's see if Martin Carthy gets one. (They'd do bloody well if they could persuade him to test-drive one for them, and give the thumbs up.) |
Subject: RE: BS: Handy guitar From: dick greenhaus Date: 02 Oct 02 - 11:17 AM Back in the late 1800s, before they had records, they were building the string quartet vaerion of the player piano. Fiddles were kept in tune by replacing the pegs with rollers, and hanging weights from the strings. |
Subject: RE: BS: Handy guitar From: rangeroger Date: 02 Oct 02 - 12:43 PM Kevin, they do give the prices. $2,999 to retrofit your guitar or $4500 to buy a new Les Paul with the system from Wildwood Guitars. rr |
Subject: RE: BS: Handy guitar From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 02 Oct 02 - 12:51 PM I think I'll wait a little bit... |
Subject: RE: BS: Handy guitar From: Bert Date: 02 Oct 02 - 03:21 PM Or you could try this |
Subject: RE: BS: Handy guitar From: Leadfingers Date: 02 Oct 02 - 04:20 PM It would take all the fun out of it if my friends couldnt complain about my tuning! |
Subject: RE: BS: Handy guitar From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 02 Oct 02 - 06:26 PM That one bert linked to looks very improbable to me. |
Subject: RE: BS: Handy guitar From: Bert Date: 04 Oct 02 - 12:28 PM It certianly is a weird looking thing, but for thirtybucks what do you expect? I wouldn't be seen dead with one myself, I think I'll try Dick's method instead and use weights instead of tuning machines. |
