Subject: Who wrote it? When every woman... From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 05 Nov 02 - 05:52 PM When every woman in the world has her mind set on freedom When every woman in the world dreams a sweet dream of peace When every woman, from every nation, Young and old, each generation Joins hands in the name of love, There will be no more war! Who wrote it? I want to include this on my upcoming cd but my producer won't do it without a royalty contract in hand! I agree with him, but have exhausted all known possibilities. |

Subject: RE: Who wrote it? When every woman... From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 06 Nov 02 - 06:09 AM Yes, all I found on my search was the Women in Black. Thanks, Joe! Fingerbuster, I completely understand how you feel. I always introduce this song with the disclaimer that we love men, we really do, and we hope men will join in the sentiment even if they're not overtly mentioned. Still, Animaterra is a women's chorus, and the song makes a powerful statement for us as mothers, wives, daughters- those who historically stayed home and watched the men kill themselves and suffered the consequences. |
Subject: Lyr Add: NAIROBI PEACE SONG From: bradfordian Date: 20 Mar 07 - 05:56 AM If every woman in the world had her mind set on freedom If every woman in the world dreamed a sweet dream of peace If every woman, of every nation, Young and old, each generation held her arms out in the name of love, There would be no more war! If every man in the world had his mind set on freedom If every man in the world dreamed a sweet dream of peace If every man, of every nation, Young and old, each generation held his arms out in the name of love, There would be no more war! If all the children in the world had their minds set on freedom If all the children in the world dreamed a sweet dream of peace If all the children, of every nation, Young and old, each generation held their arms out in the name of love, There would be no more war! If all the people in the world had their minds set on freedom If all the people in the world dreamed a sweet dream of peace If all the people, of every nation, Young and old, each generation holds hands together in the name of love, There would be no more war! As sung by Seattle Peace Chorus who call it Nairobi Peace Song. Still no author tho. Animaterra's version is available on CD from here |

Subject: RE: Origin: When every woman ... (Nairobi Peace Song) From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 18 Nov 10 - 02:52 PM Not the UUA but a late-night google search by one of my members... and the composer has been found! Karen MacKay is alive and well and living in Lewisburg, West Virginia, and she and I have spoken on the phone, sent letters, and may have the beginnings of a wonderful friendship! She isn't into email or the web, hence the difficulty finding her. She is proud to have her song sung in so many places, and we've paid her a generous royalty check for all the many times my chorus has sung it. Stay tuned- there may be more to post later, but for now, I'm over the moon about finding her! |
