Hello
I play fiddle and I want to play some music with other people. I like playing English folk, French dance stuff, Americana. If anyone wants to play something along the lines of Jesse Jackson, Low, Dirty 3, or some straightforward rumbunctious folk I'd be interested. Also if there's any good sessions (not Irish cheers) or jams round Manchester I'd appreciate the tip off.

Hi Rachel, and welcome to the Mudcat forum where I hope you will find some helpful souls. As I'm neither a Mancunian nor a musician I can't help very much, but as I sing occasionally around the area I can point out some resources for you.
Firstly Joan Blackburn (known here on Mudcat as Joan of Wigan) runs a listing here: Folkal Point of local clubs and sessions.
Another good source of local information is at Folk North West.
Also Folk Orbit has a useful list of places to visit.
All of these sites rely on information given by club and session organisers, so do check contact information before making a journey so as not to be disappointed if you find a club has moved or closed.
Good luck!

Hi Rachel,
there is a French music session the 1st saturday of each month in the Ducie Arms (just behind the university library). Don't know what it's like because I haven't made it to one yet though.

Also, the monday night session in The Beech in Chorlton is good. It is supposedly (mostly) Irish but usually ends up being pretty eclectic.

I assume you mean Manchester, UK, and not Manchester, NH.

The Red Bull in Stockport has session nights, I think on each Wednesday.
