12 Mar 08 - 09:43 PM (#2286967) Subject: Lori Holland still performing! From: Suffet New York Pinewoods Folk Music Club Folk Music Society of New York, Inc. www.folkmusicny.org proudly presents... Folkways Recording Artist LORI HOLLAND in an intimate house concert Friday • April 4, 2008 • 8:00 PM New York City • Upper West Side Location Near Broadway & West 98th Street Seating strictly limited. Reservations required. For reservations, location, and other information, please call John Ziv at 212-662-6575. Lori Holland was one of the important women of the urban folk music revival long before anyone heard of Joan Baez, Judy Collins, Mary Travers, and Carolyn Hester. Two of her albums, Scottish Folk Songs for Women (1958) and Irish Folk Songs for Women (1960) have recently been reissued as CDs by Smithsonian-Folkways, while the original LPs are now rare collectors' items. Lori Holland was also a singer-songwriter before the term became popular, and her signature song, Didn't I Dance?, has become an urban folk standard. Don't miss this rare opportunity to hear her in person. Admission: $12 for club members. $15 for non-members. $6 for children and full-time students. $10 for seniors age 65 and over. Be there! --- Steve |

From: open mike http://www.folkways.si.edu/search/AlbumDetails.aspx?ID=565 http://www.folkways.si.edu/search/AlbumDetails.aspx?ID=3199 Lori is well known as a songwriter, especially for "Didn't I Dance" which has been recorded by many artists in the U.S. and Canada. Sing Out magazine printed her songs and said "Nostalgia, respect, wistfulness, determination...find them all in 'Didn't I Dance' ...'Tapestry'. (is)...another gem." Jean Ritchie has said of Lori that she has a" …soulful voice, and is a fine songwriter!" I do not remember ever having heard her or this song. I found a clip of it here: http://www.justinandlinda.com/wayfaring.htm but it does not open. |
13 Mar 08 - 11:46 AM (#2287426) Subject: RE: Lori Holland still performing! From: WFDU - Ron Olesko Lori is a wonderful person and a marvelous performer. I see her once in awhile at the Hurdy Gurdy and she is doing well. This is a rare opportunity to hear Lori as she does not perform too often, and I highly recommend the concert! If my memory serves me right, was "Didn't I Dance?" written for Lil Appel? |

24 Nov 17 - 05:06 PM (#3890236) Subject: RE: Lori Holland still performing! From: FreddyHeadey GUEST un-named 22 Nov 2017 Apparently she is not performing publicly but still does sing a song or two. The folks at The Folk Music Society of New York, http://www.folkmusicny.org/40-60/performers.html#Jean_Ritchie know her & there is a contact email for them at the bottom of that page. |
25 Nov 17 - 01:44 PM (#3890389) Subject: RE: Lori Holland still performing! From: BrooklynJay I think it should be (gently) pointed out that the link posted by FreddyHeady is to an event that took place back in March of 2009. Jay |
25 Nov 17 - 07:35 PM (#3890424) Subject: RE: Lori Holland still performing! From: FreddyHeadey Sorry I made it look like that Jay. I should have put a longer description... I did wonder if they were a troll but giving GUEST un-named 22 Nov 2017 the benefit of the doubt that they knew neither how to add their name to a Mudcat post nor how to Google further I emailed Folk Music NY for them and received the answer from Don "I saw Lori not too long ago. She is not performing publicly but still does sing a song or two." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ah Jay, you know more of how the FMNY pages are organised than me. On my tablet I can only see the page title "Performers at C......" I hadn't dug any deeper and I took it the page wasn't so much about an event but referring to performers of the 40s&50s, last revised 2009. |
25 Nov 17 - 11:31 PM (#3890441) Subject: RE: Lori Holland still performing! From: BrooklynJay I've been a member of the FMSNY/Pinewoods for several years (I know Don and at least two other posters on this thread). I am glad to hear that Ms. Holland is still with us, even if not performing publicly. Jay |
