Lyr Req: Kate Kelly's Request (Doherty, Henshaw)

Australian song - Kate Kelly's Request, a plea from Kate Kelly to her brother Ned to think of her while he is away.

Does anyone have the lyrics for this song, or know who wrote it and who has recorded it?
I heard it sung at The Shack in Sydney, by Kate Henshaw with Pete Doherty (Lyrebird). I don't think Kate or Pete wrote it, however, and they don't have it recorded.
Thanks,
AnneMC

Can you quote any lines from the song, other than the title?

Thanks for the information about the Lyrebird duo, and that this is indeed their original song.

But does anyone have the words please?

Anne

G'day Anne,

Well ... confirming Sandra post of the modern composition from the Lyrebird duo (often seen at Sandra's Loaded Dog Folk Club in Sydney) ... means that this isn't part of, or a variant of the older traditional Ned Kelly's Farewell to Greta (Greta is a locality, in 'Kelly country' ... not another Kelly sibling.)

I would have liked chasing up something of Kate Kelly's ... as it seems she is something like my great-great-great-Aunt ... by my mother's line of descent from the Quinns - Ned and Kate's mother's side!

Regards,

Bob

KATE KELLY'S REQUEST
(By Pete Doherty and Kate Henshaw of Lyrebird)

Now Annie's getting married. Mum's had the kid.
Fitzpatrick's still lying about those things that he did,
And it's getting harder to feed us all of the time.
You know the troopers keep coming around.
They asked everyone but there wasn't a sound.

When they call out my name,
Like they did the last time that they came,
When they call our my name,
Will you be there for me?

It's months since they took Mum and Alice away.
They'll never let 'em go; that's what they say,
But maybe you can trade, and they'll set them free.
You know the question keeps coming around.
I looked for an answer. There's none to be found.

When they call out my name,
Like they did the last time that they came,
When they call our my name,
Will you be there for me?

Oh, now, my brother,
Brother, where will you be?
When the hard rain is falling,
Will you be there for me?
When they call out my name,
Like they did the last time that they came,
When they call our my name,
Will you be there for me?

Thanks a lot for posting the song. Recordings by Lyrebird can be heard on their MySpace page. You have a beautiful voice, Kate. Nice harmonica, too.

Thanks so much for the lyrics Kate. I thoroughly enjoyed the evening at The Shack, was the one of the highlights of our trip to Australia and I so much enjoyed the Kate Kelly song. Unfortunately I haven't retained the melody - have you recorded this song anywhere?
