26 Nov 09 - 06:17 AM (#2773973) Subject: Tune Req: Lovely Rosa (?) - dance tune From: Marie27 Hi Folks I am trying to find the tune to the slow romantic dance which is played at ceilidhs eg by Peeping Tom and Pete Grassby. The thing is, I can't quite remember the name of the music, nor the actual moves to the dance. It involves a side steps x2, moving in/out, twirl ending with the woman held within the man's arms, a small waltz, and then starts the sequence again. I am sure I have missed out some of the movements. If anyone has any ides, please let me know. Thanks Marie / Titch |

Vuoma-Pertti's mazurka Intro + 32 bars waltz x 6 From På bar gärning by Kangas Spelemän from Finland. If our uneducated attempt at translation is correct, this mazurka comes from Pertti Vuomajärvi, one of the great old Lapp melodeon players who was born in 1894. This extra-sleazy tune is usually used for Gordon's extra-sleazy dance Rozsa." I'm pretty sure that a Google search on Rozsa will find the moves. Malcolm |

A fine waltz it is, but I would liken it to (note the Fruedian allegory) a stepped wier of some hieght, as opposed to a babbling brook. The sax can be very - er - um - sexy. Once the Peeping Tom melodeon is left to it - now that IS slinky. I like em both. |

What's wrong with the eponymous tune <-- (look! it's a link!) referred to by my esteemed friend in an earlier message? As Malcolm says, any slinky (or non-slinky) waltz will do, or something that sounds waltzy (observing that the above tune is notated in 6/8) Perhaps I should have a go at writing something with a Balkan/middle eastern flavour to it (on an Armenian or Macedonian scale of the sort whose key sig has both sharps and flats, for instance). I was thinking of doing something snake-charmer-ish for Pig Dyke Molly but I could make it a waltz instead... I think at different times we've perpetrated all of our usual waltz sets on dancers doing Rozsa: The Shrewbury Waltz, Princess Caroline's, Tommy Bhetty's, The Cumberland. Possibly some of Nick Barber's too. The Blue Danube wouldn't be quite right. Anahata |

Keeping it small (matron!) sway to m l, then rt; Keeping hold of hands, & lifting the joined hands, the wo turns half round to back onto the man. The still joined hands drop in front of the wo in a sort of cuddly hold. 4 small chassée L, then back R, sway twice, wo turns half to untie B1 Join rt hands; step together, apart & change place with wo jiving under; that again B2 Ballroom hold; 2 chassée towards the pointy end, 2 back & waltz to fill up the music. |
