13 Apr 10 - 05:34 PM (#2885855) Subject: RE: Cheap caravan - great for festivals From: Richard Bridge I would point out that you should never never ever go near caravans with pressure washers - they blow the Sikkaflex out of the seams and then the van will indeed leak. Buyers may want to know which series Carver Cascade it is - fitting a replacement series 2 is not hard, but a series 1 can be a nightmare to get all the nuts and bolts off because they are EXTERNAL combustion and the burners and stuff are in a metal box under the van. Also, the 80% rule would indicate that the towcar should be over 1000 kg. Having said that it does look nice, though. |

My last one had a dent in the roof - the first time I took her out I went under a tree with an overhanging limb. My present one has a mis-shapen front from where the previous owner put it too close to a camp-fire and was then rather vandalised internally and to the door and kitchen window. |

I PM'd Paul in the hope that a good deal could be struck between him and another fellow genuine folkie festival-goer to negotiate a fair price but it appears that the caravan is now in the hands of his son who was supposed to email me back, but never bothered to, and was just after the fattest, greediest, price he could get. Anyway, I guess that's life! What I don't like is the fact that Paul started this thread as the seller when he wasn't the actual seller after all. So in my PM to him I was just wasting my breath. Also, why put a commercial sale on Mudcat aimed at fellow folkies when the actual sale was nothing to do with him or folkies at all and his posting led you to the biggest commercial site on the ruddy planet - EBAY !! Also, isn't there something against the 'trade description' act when a product described as a "Cheap caravan - great for festivals" actually then goes on to achieve one of the highest sale prices on ebay for a caravan of that age and condition. I guess that what I am trying to say is that people selling things should not appear, or be allowed to post on Mudcat, at all. Period. It can taint the site and bring it into disrepute and the Mudcat police should not allow it especially when it is under fase pretences. I rest my case. Disgruntled. Chris |

And they take quite some time to assemble/disassemble - with bolts and nuts or pop rivets. |

It may be better to buy late autumn or winter, Soldier Boy, if you have free storage. It helps to be a bit of a handyman too. My current van had been vandalised, and the plastic front a bit melted by putting it too close to a campfire - but it is watertight and now comfy and cosy, with all mod cons. I do recommend being fussy about the shower, and a cassette lavatory is so much better than a portapotti. |

There seems to be a misunderstanding here - I was not actually selling the item via Mudcat but merely pointing out that it was for sale on Ebay and that festival-goers may be interested. There was never any intention that " ...a good deal could be struck between him and another fellow genuine folkie festival-goer ..." - in fact this would be against the Ebay rules, which explicitly prohibit "Cancelling bids and ending a listing early in order to sell the item off-eBay. You should be aware that as well as avoiding fees, you risk fraud by selling items off the eBay website". |

I has an oldish yamaha guitar that I mentioned to a cousin that I was selling, he expected me to let him have it for a song, so I told him he could bid for it like anyone else - he bought it for a fair price in the end and we were both happy. |

I bought it last year because I was going to move to France and I wanted a csmper I could use as a car, would park in car park (in only one bay) and would go on the ferry for the price of a car. Don't even think of flinging it at a corner on an adverse camber, and the engines and gearboxes tend to disintegrate too. I'd suggest instead the campervan versions of teh Citroen C15D: a much better drive. If you fit the 1.7 or 1.9 turbodiesel versions of the same engine it will go pretty adequately and still do 50mpg. Both however rust. |
