A coachbuilt classic - just the job for festivals. Big car not needed for towing - currently VW Golf. On EBay with no reserve - see http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Cotswold-Windrush-132-Caravan_W0QQitemZ250614188371QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Campers_Caravans_Motorhomes?hash= For more info PM me or contact details on EBay. |
13 Apr 10 - 05:34 PM (#2885855) Subject: RE: Cheap caravan - great for festivals From: Richard Bridge I would point out that you should never never ever go near caravans with pressure washers - they blow the Sikkaflex out of the seams and then the van will indeed leak. Buyers may want to know which series Carver Cascade it is - fitting a replacement series 2 is not hard, but a series 1 can be a nightmare to get all the nuts and bolts off because they are EXTERNAL combustion and the burners and stuff are in a metal box under the van. Also, the 80% rule would indicate that the towcar should be over 1000 kg. Having said that it does look nice, though. |
13 Apr 10 - 07:15 PM (#2885944) Subject: RE: Cheap caravan - great for festivals From: Soldier boy I'm jumping in quick to register my interest. I know it's not on a first come first served basis and that it's on auction on EBay but I am a great believer in getting off your butt to chase your dreams - and I WANT this caravan! yes sir. My tired folkie bones can't do no more camping in a tent so I'm PMing you now to put me on your radar and get more info. Chris |
13 Apr 10 - 09:07 PM (#2886034) Subject: RE: Cheap caravan - great for festivals From: Richard Bridge The control box appears to be for a series 2 Cascade, so a replacement boiler should be pretty plug-in. |

14 Apr 10 - 03:32 AM (#2886173) Subject: RE: Cheap caravan - great for festivals From: theleveller Very nice, but we'll try to get another season out of the Green Slime Caravan now that I've mended the hole in the side. |
14 Apr 10 - 04:48 AM (#2886200) Subject: RE: Cheap caravan - great for festivals From: Richard Bridge Now here's a suggestion! A photopage for 'catters' caravan wrecks! My last one had a dent in the roof - the first time I took her out I went under a tree with an overhanging limb. My present one has a mis-shapen front from where the previous owner put it too close to a camp-fire and was then rather vandalised internally and to the door and kitchen window. |

14 Apr 10 - 09:11 AM (#2886367) Subject: RE: Cheap caravan - great for festivals From: Zany Mouse Can we add aged campers to that please? I have the tiniest camper in folkdom! It looks better inside now that I've "renovated" it. The first time I closed the curtains they fell into shreds at the side Rhiannon |

14 Apr 10 - 01:15 PM (#2886539) Subject: RE: Cheap caravan - great for festivals From: GUEST,Richard Bridge on the dark side The easiest two ways of doing it (sort of) would be to use Fakebook photo albums or a photostream thing like Flickr |
14 Apr 10 - 01:24 PM (#2886550) Subject: RE: Cheap caravan - great for festivals From: VirginiaTam flickr lets you set up a group account where members of the group can upload pics to that account. I can provide after pics of Richard's dented roof van. When I finish the work inside I will be able to provide after pics too. |
14 Apr 10 - 01:57 PM (#2886572) Subject: RE: Cheap caravan - great for festivals From: kendall We just bought a 20 foot NOMAD camper for $1600 delivered. It's in great shape and everything works. |
14 Apr 10 - 03:30 PM (#2886630) Subject: RE: Cheap caravan - great for festivals From: GUEST,Richard Bridge on the dark side That's dear, Kendall. My little dented roof van (before the roof was dented) cost £250, and my current van £500 for each purchase. |

16 Apr 10 - 03:09 PM (#2888108) Subject: RE: Cheap caravan - great for festivals From: Suegorgeous Rhiannon What make/model is your tiny camper? I keep fantasising about getting a small one (as I don't want to drive something big) for festies and trips into the wilds. I'd also be interested to know what small vans are available (already converted), if anyone can suggest any. Ta Sue |

19 Apr 10 - 07:13 PM (#2890190) Subject: RE: Cheap caravan - great for festivals From: Suegorgeous So who got it? anyone from here? |
19 Apr 10 - 08:13 PM (#2890255) Subject: RE: Cheap caravan - great for festivals From: Soldier boy It was sold for £542. Far more than I could afford, but hey ho! I PM'd Paul in the hope that a good deal could be struck between him and another fellow genuine folkie festival-goer to negotiate a fair price but it appears that the caravan is now in the hands of his son who was supposed to email me back, but never bothered to, and was just after the fattest, greediest, price he could get. Anyway, I guess that's life! What I don't like is the fact that Paul started this thread as the seller when he wasn't the actual seller after all. So in my PM to him I was just wasting my breath. Also, why put a commercial sale on Mudcat aimed at fellow folkies when the actual sale was nothing to do with him or folkies at all and his posting led you to the biggest commercial site on the ruddy planet - EBAY !! Also, isn't there something against the 'trade description' act when a product described as a "Cheap caravan - great for festivals" actually then goes on to achieve one of the highest sale prices on ebay for a caravan of that age and condition. I guess that what I am trying to say is that people selling things should not appear, or be allowed to post on Mudcat, at all. Period. It can taint the site and bring it into disrepute and the Mudcat police should not allow it especially when it is under fase pretences. I rest my case. Disgruntled. Chris |
19 Apr 10 - 08:23 PM (#2890261) Subject: RE: Cheap caravan - great for festivals From: GUEST,punkfolkrocker are there any cheap quick and easy to erect and dismantle flat pack Sheds you can take on the car roofrack to sleep in at festivals..???? |
19 Apr 10 - 08:35 PM (#2890269) Subject: RE: Cheap caravan - great for festivals From: The Fooles Troupe Well, you can get such flat pack garden sheds in Australia, but they usually break down to pack in a carton that is larger than will fit on a car roof rack. And they take quite some time to assemble/disassemble - with bolts and nuts or pop rivets. |
20 Apr 10 - 03:42 AM (#2890437) Subject: RE: Cheap caravan - great for festivals From: Richard Bridge I watched a lot of caravans when buying the successive ones I had, and that's a perfectly fair price. It may be better to buy late autumn or winter, Soldier Boy, if you have free storage. It helps to be a bit of a handyman too. My current van had been vandalised, and the plastic front a bit melted by putting it too close to a campfire - but it is watertight and now comfy and cosy, with all mod cons. I do recommend being fussy about the shower, and a cassette lavatory is so much better than a portapotti. |
20 Apr 10 - 05:15 AM (#2890473) Subject: RE: Cheap caravan - great for festivals From: Paul Reade I'm sorry Chris feels like this. There seems to be a misunderstanding here - I was not actually selling the item via Mudcat but merely pointing out that it was for sale on Ebay and that festival-goers may be interested. There was never any intention that " ...a good deal could be struck between him and another fellow genuine folkie festival-goer ..." - in fact this would be against the Ebay rules, which explicitly prohibit "Cancelling bids and ending a listing early in order to sell the item off-eBay. You should be aware that as well as avoiding fees, you risk fraud by selling items off the eBay website". |
20 Apr 10 - 07:19 AM (#2890527) Subject: RE: Cheap caravan - great for festivals From: Black belt caterpillar wrestler I used to know someone who had an interesting frame tent that was fitted to the car as a roof rack. You folded the sides down and drove the car out from underneath! |
20 Apr 10 - 11:55 AM (#2890663) Subject: RE: Cheap caravan - great for festivals From: GUEST,Silas Paul, he is being a dickhead. I have on a couple of occasions sold stuff via ebay to relatives - its the only fair way of getting the right price. I has an oldish yamaha guitar that I mentioned to a cousin that I was selling, he expected me to let him have it for a song, so I told him he could bid for it like anyone else - he bought it for a fair price in the end and we were both happy. |
20 Apr 10 - 12:57 PM (#2890692) Subject: RE: Cheap caravan - great for festivals From: Zany Mouse Sue: I have a tiny van. It's a Bedford Bambi. I bought it last year because I was going to move to France and I wanted a csmper I could use as a car, would park in car park (in only one bay) and would go on the ferry for the price of a car. The Bambi filled sll the criteria. Rhiannon |
20 Apr 10 - 02:07 PM (#2890737) Subject: RE: Cheap caravan - great for festivals From: Richard Bridge However, the Bedford Bambi is also very very slow and not very stable in cross-winds (as well as not having, for reasons of space, cassette toilet or shower). Don't even think of flinging it at a corner on an adverse camber, and the engines and gearboxes tend to disintegrate too. I'd suggest instead the campervan versions of teh Citroen C15D: a much better drive. If you fit the 1.7 or 1.9 turbodiesel versions of the same engine it will go pretty adequately and still do 50mpg. Both however rust. |
