Tune Req: The Miners' Anthem

I am trying to find, without success, music for 'The Miners Anthem' as sung by Roger Bryant on 'The Cry of Tin' CD. Can anyone help? If no music, then a midi or abc file would be good.

Don't give up - someone will surely be able to help, just try refreshing the thread a few times.

Does the song begin 'A miner's life is like a sailor on board a ship to cross the waves / Every day his life's in danger, many ventures being brave ...'?

If that's the one I think it's entitled 'A Miner's Life'

Good luck with your search!

JJ

Nice try John J , but no

If I could find my copy of 'tin' I'ld lend it to you

Could you do with just the CD and learn it the trad way?

If Roger is at Bodmin Folk club on Friday I'll mention it it, I gather he's resting his own session for the summer.

Thanks for your encouragement John, I will do as you suggest.
The words are, Verse 1 1st line "Well a miner's life is short and hard, ...." and the chorus is "So place yourself in the saviour's hands, ...." Any help gratefully received, it takes me ages to transcribe from CD or MP3. Many thanks Andy A

Hi Breezy,
I have the CD for 'Cry of Tin', just not very good at transcribing by ear alone. If you could persuade Roger to help will be so grateful. Thanks Andy A

Just for info & accuracy before thread vanishes ~~ that one is actually usually called The Miners' Life-Guard [the life-guard being their union] ~ has the chorus "Union miners stand together, Heed no operator's tale!". Adapted in 1958 by John Brunner for the first Aldermaston march as The H-Bomb's Thunder ~ "Don't you hear the H-bomb's thunder Echo like the crack of doom? ... ~ Men & women, stand together, Do not heed the men of war!" ~ and became the anthem of the CND. As I think I have related before, but wotthehell archie, I shared a Hampstead flat with John at the time, &, as he couldn't sing a note, he asked me to sing a verse & chorus to try how it sounded; so I can claim to have been the first-ever singer of that now-so-famous song!

FYI ~~ John Brunner went on to become a famous award-winning science fiction & fantasy novelist. Died 1995. His archive is at Liverpool University.

No the one he was looking for wasn't Miners Lifeguard but the Miners Anthem and written by Roger Bryant for the show Cry of Tin

Yes, I got that thanks, Cats. I was responding to John's above about the title of the other song, & it all drifted a bit, as happens not infrequently hereabouts! -

I know the tune all right, and I'm pretty okay with the chorus, but what I need is the words of the verses - especially the one about bestiality and the one that ends 'all our souls are saved'. I want to sing it while I'm in Oz - give them something they haven't heard a thousand times before :-)

Still looking for the words! Wanted to quote some of it after something came up on Facebook which had a picture of Trump grinning like the arsehole he is, standing next to the Queen (it's a long story). I will have to be content with the bit which I remember, and can picture Kevin Burrow belting out :)

And all our souls are saved
(everyone shouts "Arseholes!")

So place yourself in the saviour's hands,
And let his good grace flow.
Sing out his name at the working face,
And trust the god you know.
And trust the god you know,
And trust the god you know.
Sing out his name at the working face,
And trust the god you know.

THE MINER'S ANTHEM
(Roger Bryant)

Well a miner's life is short and hard when you're working underground,
So share your faith with the other men and let your soul be found.

  Chorus:
So place yourself in the saviour's hands and let his good grace flow.
Sing out his name at the working face and trust the god you know.
And trust the god you know, and trust the god you know.
Sing out his name at the working face and trust the god you know.

In sin and sorrow once we dwelt and bestiality.
But Wesley came with a burning flame and set us sinners free. Chorus

Well he brought joy unto our hearts, our spirits now are raised.
At last we walk the narrow path and all our souls are saved. Chorus

Sing out your sins as you work below and help the work along
So let our lord on earth be praised, in prayer and evensong. Chorus

Well a miner's life is short and hard when you're working underground
So share your faith with the other men and let your soul be found. Chorus x2

Thank you, Mick! BTW it is also traditional for the audience to cheer at the mention of "bestiality" ;)

Jennie

Who am I to judge what people do in the privacy of their own mines?!

Looking at this again, it seems as if it should be in bestiality, but all the recordings I can find seem to sing and.
