BS: Tinker could use a little MoJo

Subject: BS: Tinker could use a little MoJo
From: Tinker

My daughter Julienne had a fever Saturday, so I said I would drive down to North Carolina with her on Sunday as she returned to classes at Duke Law and then I would fly home....

The short version is ......

A car in the far left lane hit some debris... okay it looked like a boxed refrigerator had fallen off a truck(luckily it later proved empty) and spun out into our lane on Rt 95 in Spotsylvania, VA   ALWAYS WEAR YOUR SEAT BELT! Despite T-boning his car at 65 miles an hour(minus 5 seconds of braking) the air bags deployed, no one hit us from behind, the cars limped off the road, and we all got out of the cars on our own. The ER nurse mumbled something about angels...

My blood pressure was a "tad" high after the accident and I hit my knee .... further exam and EKG cleared my heart, but showed a broken(not displaced) rib and a spot on my spleen that earned me a night of observation in the trauma unit of Mary Washington Hospital (benign cyst is most probable cause) Julienne has a concussion and we are both a bit sore.

Now I have to say as we initially went to the stand alone ER in "Somewhere" where I got showered in Cat Scan contrast fluid not once but twice due to IV-lines that were not properly applied, as I shivered in the Cat scan machine that broke down twice it was reassuring to know there were thoughts and good wishes waiting from around the world.

I've already apologized to my boss (Episcopal Priest) that due to my extreme pull of Jesus Mojo on Sunday Night Notre Dame did not do so well in the BCS bowl.... Sometimes the stars align in ways that are amazing.

Julienne after 48 + hours is still having concussion symptoms and has been put on "cognitive blackout". This means no reading, TV, computer, texting until Monday.

I'm with her in Durham as chauffeur of rental car and general "keep spirits high buddy".

So I could use some amusement for the next few days and some good ideas so my dear daughter and I find things to do that don't involve cognitive activity..... And for those of you that haven't met her, no she wont sing.

How about basking. Lots of basking. In all the love there is in the universe.

Oh and breathing too.

Jeez, Tink! If you wanted some attention, all you had to do was ask!

Seriously, though, glad the two of you are relatively OK. You have as much mojo as I can spare at the moment.

As for non-cognitive activities, can't help ya there at the moment. I'll toss iit in the "simmer" department of my brain and maybe something will rise to the top later.

Oh my, Tinker... you do have adventures getting her to school!

Amusement.... hmmmmm.... well, you can browse my collection of cute cartoons on religion that an Episcopalian 'might' find amusing.

Sorry I can't provide some 'early morning wading fun' (don't ask, folks

Seriously, watch 'light' stuff on TV and stay warm and re-count blessings.

We are SO glad you both are mostly ok.......

You certainly had some mojo working walking away from that!

Can't think of naything that doesn't require cognitive activity, though...

I've always hated that stretch of I-95, Tinker... I almost got scrunched there one time when a large metal disc about 10 feet round and a couple inches thick decided it was a Frisbee and flew off the back of the flat-bed tractor trailer right in front of me... Luckily there was no one in the left lane and I was able to move over just enough so that it missed me by about a foot...

Durham, you say??? Well, Dani or Janie live right down the street so ya'll oughtta hook up with them... They know how to have fun...

Well, I guess you and Julienne could watch Fox "News" or listen to right wing talk radio - It doesn't require, or even invite, any cognitive processing.   (It may tend to raise blood pressure though, so maybe not a good idea.)
Maybe listening to instrumental music?
Can either or both of you have massages? (On the non-injured body parts, of course.)

Have Dani cook you up a big mess o' southern vittles and Janie sing some blues or Gospel for you. That should help.

Really, though, Tinker, there are much safer ways to have an excellent adventure. I hope you and yours do not have another one like this anytime soon.   And please keep healing, both of you.

Our initial thought was mindless TV.... but Wednesday's check up took TV away too. Went into old navy to get a few items as I hadn't brought more than a change of clothes and the store displays (stripes and brights got painful so even shopping is on the watch list.

Tomorrow we will go for Mani-pedi's. A friend of my youngest son recommended pampering ourselves with "grooming" activities. But neither of us are the girly girl type for that to last long.

But now it is nap time for both of us...

Thanks all

Is listening to music okay? Or, mom reading betdime tales?:-) What about fingerpainting or working with a wad of clay with nothing in mind...so the creative side can rest? Kids card games like Uno? That might require too much. Is there a local petting zoo? Listening to funny old radio shows?

SO gratefull you are both relatively safe and well.

Scary stuff!!! Glad the damage wasn't greater! Sending positive thoughts your way, but so far have no brilliant non-cognitive ideas other than maybe listening to music. Sleep is always good, but not always possible...

Mend quickly, both of you!

I tried to think of some non-cognitive things to do that would better (and different from) nothing, and I just couldn't.

It's all very scary! I'm glad things didn't come out worse, and hope you and Julienne both heal quickly and completely.

Perhaps too much like trying not to think of monkeys for___minutes : )

Wouldn't wish that experience on anyone, but very glad you're both still with us in the original number of pieces.

Didnt notice any mention of facial injuries so how about goig out and getting facepacks moisturiser and all the fixins of a girlie day giving each other facials and hand massages. If you are feeling very adventourous even try nail polish (Warning reminder to self) do not do this with friend whose only idea of nail polish is black or flourescent pink .

Lemurs! they're right around the corner from you. Or tigers! Ask me, I can hook you up.

You should come over to Maple View and sit on the porch and eat ice cream.

It's going to be 70* this weekend, we'll find someplace for you to bask in the sun (although her quad is not shabby : )

Hope to see you tonight!

Sad to say supper got canceled. It's foggy here, and I am blind as a bat behind the wheel of a car at night when it is raining. (Not sure if I have gotten old or simply grown up:?) But talked to Tinker and all things considered she and daughter are doing well. She's having some internet access issues but will try again later to post more.

While I deeply regret the circumstances that lead to her being here for several more days, I'm so very glad to have the chance for some good visiting! Tomorrow is going to be warm (70's) and partly sunny. She probably isn't ready for a hike up Eno Mountain, but we will definitely find trouble to get into together!

So Tink....I arrive late but I'm still good for some hugs and good thoughts. You are actually very lucky because some of the worst of accidents start with the oddest of things. Enjoy Janie.....Wish I was there! Take good care and you'll be in our best thoughts around here.

Ahh Kendall, the thought of having a "Kendall groupie reunion" definately brings a smile.
But Dani, Janie and I will have to make due on our own with warm southern weather.

We have finally come up with a smile provoking non-cognitive activity. She gets to call and harass her younger brothers.... They are all pretty silly.

I suppose that 50 degree weather is quite balmy in Maine in January, eh?

Rats! Now I know why that pull to plant the pansies in the fall that I didn't was so strong - an opportunity to impress Tinker with our "winter flowers." I would say a missed opportunity, except that Tinker and Girl are even more lovely winter blooms to encounter.

Btw, Tink, do you extend ALL of your road trips by a day or a few? ; )

I've always suffered from wanderlust and dragged my feet the whole way home, but I'll take coffee on the beach over broken ribs anyday. Guess I'd better be more specific what I'm lookin' for.....

Had a great dinner with Dani at Spartacus Yummmm .... and we found a groupon which made it even better! We were able to keep Julienne entertained without "cognitive activity" and much laughter ensued through out.

WE MISSED JANIE .... her car refused to start! No, I am not responsible for all chaos and mahem currently in the Greater Durham area.... at least I hope not..

But we will all join up for some old fashioned churh singing in the morning. What a joy to have friends all over.

Afraid I haven't been much care or contact so far - in spite of the best of intentions. But Dani is picking me up so that the three of us can go to church together this morning and then I hope to feed Kathy a nice lunch.

I'm just glad they don't think I'm more trouble than I'm worth!

And because we were a bit late, we ended up in the first pew, 2 feet from piano and pianist and choir. During communion, she noodled with "Down the River To Pray" and soon realized she had to let us sing it, those who cared to join.

And our singing worlds collide. Magical.

And it was a glorious morning in North Carolina. Beautiful surroundings and beautiful music with amazing people. (And I never thought I would ever comment on a church organist having sexy legs.)

After a grand brunch with Janie, Julienne and I strolled sloooowly through Duke gardens in 74 degree weather !!!!!

I'll link tommorrow to the flowers bravely blooming out of season. We both found a few muscles that are still working things out on our stroll, but it was a wonderful spirit lifter for this girl who is more accustom to northern January.
