ADD: I Don't Want Your Red, Red Roses (Rosselson)

Subject: Lyr Add: I Don't Want Your Red, Red Roses
From: GUEST,Leon Rosselson: Turning Silence into Song

Also on Frankie Armstrong's I Heard a Woman Singing

I DON'T WANT YOUR RED, RED ROSES
(Leon Rosselson)

I don’t want
I don’t want
I don’t want your red, red roses anymore, anymore, anymore

Well Now, I know you won’t believe me, and you’ll say that I’m just playing
But I’ve got a funny feeling that you’re not the one for me
And I don’t want you oh my darling, I don’t want you for a lover
For your ways are too demanding and you’ll never let me be

So, I don’t want your red, red roses
I don’t want your diamond droppings
I don’t want your chequebook kisses anymore, anymore, anymore

I was one for your collection and you wore me like a medal
I was just your decoration but you never knew my name
Well I’m not your pretty baby, and I’m not your little lady*
So you better find another crazy partner for your game

And I don’t want your red, red roses
I don’t want your diamond droppings
I don’t want your chequebook kisses anymore, anymore, anymore

So it’s farewell and forever and I can’t say that I’m sorry
We have broken words together now there’s nothing more to say
And there’s no use trying to tell me we could ever make it better
It would be the same old story, it would end the same old way

So, I don’t want your red, red roses
I don’t want your diamond droppings
I don’t want your chequebook kisses anymore, anymore, anymore

I got a little confused by the way the message was introduced. I didn't THINK it was posted by Leon Rosselson, but I didn't know. I added the title and songwriter information to the post above, and the one alternate line from the songbook.

"I Don't Want Your Red, Red Roses" was written by Leon Rosselson. It appeared on Frankie Armstrong's 1984 Flying Fish album, I Heard a Woman Singing.

Here's the Frankie Armstrong recording: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r7_5kLSDOZ4

Here's the Leon Rosselson recording, from his Turning Silence Into Song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQEJ4Yx-xUs - but the singer on this cut is Frankie Armstrong. Did Frankie Armstrong do the cut on the Rosselson album, or is this a mistake?

And finally, here's a Nancy Kerr performance of the song, from her "Leon Rosselson Song a Day" project: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SkSnq0gAtlo

Did Rosselson not record the song?

Leon Rosselson's CD included the recording from Franke Armstrong's earlier album. See my discography's entry on Turning Silence into Song.
