Failing that, get a biggish bottle, a small wasp nest and insert nest into bottle. Cork tightly and shake. Hum a tune whilst shaking the bottle rythmically. Give the same effect, but may cause some irritation if you open the jar..... Sorry, here the hurdy gurdy is affectionately known as the bottle of wasps. Guess why. I really do know someone who might be of some help, if I knew where you were..... LTS |
17 Jul 00 - 02:42 PM (#259353) Subject: RE: Hurdy-gurdy-- looking for one From: Jon W. Decent but inexpensive may be a contradiction in terms when applied to hurdy gurdys. Nevertheless, MusicMaker's Kits has kits, finished instruments, plans, and hardware packs available for a seemingly-okay-but-not-fully-implemented version of a hurdy gurdy (4 strings, 12 keys, no dog or buzzing bridge or whatever that is). The price seems about as reasonable as anything I've seen on the web. There is also a plan (?) for a $20/one weekend+ hurdy gurdy on Dennis Havlena's website. It's not supposed to look nice but it is suppossed to be easy to build and sound good. |

Sorry I haven't got the time to search for it, but I'm sure it's there. CHeers Bugsy |

17 Jul 00 - 09:45 PM (#259693) Subject: RE: Hurdy-gurdy-- looking for one From: Gypsy I built the kit from musicmakers. Fortunately i live in an are filled with players of wheel fiddles, and it was pronounced to be a good, entry level instrument. A "real" lute backed hurdy gurdy is well over 1,000.00 for an entry level, so the kit is a good way to get feet wet. If you know you are going to love and play, get a good one. If you are experimenting, get the kit. Oh yeah, find some grade schoolers to break it in. Takes a while to get the wheel happy on this one. |
