Lyr/Chords Req: Pal of my Cradle Days

Time for my annual Mothers Day gig and they have asked for a song again. You folks never let me down.

I am looking for the lyrics/chords to "Pal of my Cradle Days". I have done a super search and only came up with one reference to it in a thread, but no lyrics. I would appreciate any assistance.

All the best,

Mick

found this 'Cradle Days', Nothin' about Old Pal in it!

Cradle Days
Bette Midler

You took me from my mother's lovin' arms.
I still had about a foot to grow.
Whoa-ooh, I must have been only maybe seventeen.
It was a very long time ago.

Actually we raised each other;
you, our kids and myself.
You wait 'til you become a part of me,
then you wanna put me on the shelf.

Woah, that first kiss you gave me, I still remember.
I was just a child, dear.
Your lips were so warm and tender.
That kiss, I'll always remember.
That was the first day we met.

I remember what the preacher said:
"Girl, will you be his wedded wife,
(forever and ever)
'n' stand beside that boy forever,
like for the rest of your natural life?"

You took my darlin' babies from me!
You really broke my heart in two!
God in heaven knows that I love them!
And in your heart you know it's true!

Oh, that first kiss you gave me, I still remember.
I was just a child. Your lips were so warm and tender.
That kiss, oh, I'll always remember.
That was the first day we met.
(Always remember. It's a kiss that I'll never forget.)

I don't remember too much about my cradle days.
Guess you could say I became a woman too fast.
Whoa, what did I know? That you were the right man for me.
What did I know? I knew that I loved that man!

Whoa, that first kiss you gave me, oh-o-o, how I still remember!
I was just a child, dear. Your lips were so warm and tender.
That kiss, I will always remember,
'cause that was the first day we met.
The first day we met, darlin', darlin', whoa, the first day we met.

Whoa, I remember!
Come back, baby, let's talk it over!
Don't take your love away from me!
Come back, baby.
Oh, don't you wanna try it on one more time boy?
Let's talk it over. Let's talk it over!
Oh, how can I forget you?
Branded me! Scarred by your love!
That first kiss you gave me boy!
'

I don't think that is it, Gene. This is a song that would be appropriate at a Mothers Day recital. I know the title is "Pal of My Cradle Days".

Thanks for the effort, and I hope we can find this.

I can't help with all of the lyrics right now, and I won't be speaking to my mum until tomorrow, or failing that, my nana next week. How soon do you need it?

Just to jog everyone's memory, this is all I know:
Pal of my cradle days
I needed you always
Since I was a baby upon your knee
You sacrificed everything for me
...I took the gold from your hair
I put the silver threads there
...I don't know any way I could ever repay
Pal of my cradle days

Oh God, Mick, I'm crying now. My mum used to sing that to me......

I've got the music. Bill Martin sings it in our Old Time Music Hall show. Told you I'd make you famous Bill!

I'll go down now and find it. Hope I'm not too late.

right. Sarah (6) went and fetched it for me. Here goes.

chords you said? i presume you have the words to the second verse so haven't included them, but if you want them, please ask. I wish I could have got you the full version, but this is simplified, because it made my eyes ache. When Bill sings this he has them crying buckets. Goodbye from Devon UK

Have just noticed how after I carefully set the chords out above each line of lyrics, they have come out all chewed up. what should I do.

here's verse 2 which I've just noticed you need too.

Greatest friend, dearest pal
It was me who caused you
Every sorrow and heartache you knew
Your face so fair, I have wrinkled with care
I placed every line that is there.
Chorus

The Levy Sheetmusic collection has a copy, but it's not available online.  The credits are: lyric by Marshall Montgomery; music by Al Piantadosi; published New York: Leo Feist, Inc., 1925.

Has anybody found out if there's a way to request songs from Levy that aren't online? They don't have songs published after 1923 online, because those songs are still under copyright (dang corporate moneygrabbers).

In case you missed it, I posted all the words and the chords above, a few messages back, but the chords got jumbled up. What can I do to correct it? I am desperate to help somebody, but nobody will listen.AAARGH. deni

Deni, you are wonderful. You are all panicked at wanting to help someone. I love having you and others like you around here. The only reason I refreshed it was because I knew a Joe Clone would see it and fix the spacing. You got me EXACTLY the song I was looking for and I am grateful. Now I have to go to work and rearrange it so it suits me, but that is easy now that you have given me the structure. Thanks a million.

All the best,

Mick

Subject: Tune Req: Pal of my Cradle Days
From: Genie

Glad to find this song here. It's been requested by several nursing home residents where I do music -- especially around Mother's Day. One lady wrote out the words for me, but I couldn't recall the entire tune, and the chords will help.

Nevertheless, can someone post a MIDI or direct me to an MP3? (I'll also check the library to see if they can find sheet music.)
