I don't know it; and it doesn't seem to be in the DT.

Anyone else?

Paddy Reilly's performance of "Mulligan and Me" is included in the anthology "In Dublin's Fair City," Celtic Corner CD #10042, 1998.

Here's what I transcribed from a sound sample at http://shopping.yahoo.com/shop?d=product&id=1921265991

"...dear old sweet shop where we bought our honeybees
It's now been changed into a takeaway Chinese
And even the old picture house where the gang all used to go
Has since been turned into a roller..."

Thread Name: Does Anyone Know 'Mulligan'

Subject: Does Anyone Know Mulligan

Some years ago Paddy Riley recorded a song that ended with the words, "Mulligan and me". I've never heard anyone else sing this song.
Tonight, I caught paddy's show at Brittingham's in Lafayette Hill, a suburb of Philadelphia. I asked him to sing it and he said he's forgotten the words so now what do I do? Naturally, I decided to ask the mavins of Mudcat. Don't let me down. I've bragged about you guys and your encyclopedic knowledge os obscure songs.
H-E-L-P!

Thanks for reposting, Joe.
I did buy the CD. Well, actually, it was a tape. Now, I can't find it or the song. Hell, even paddy has forgotten the words.

From: GUEST,idjit5500@yahoo.com

I stopped here looking for the lyrics to the song and hit on this thread. I had a Paddy Reilly tape with this song and wanted to get the lyrics. Since nobody else had it, I decided to transcribe them myself. Hope this helps somebody. I don't know the songwriter or even a year, but it must have been sometime in the last twenty years from the lyrics.

MULLIGAN AND ME

I took my mind for a little walk round the streets of yesterday
To all the old places where the gang and I did play
But deep inside it hurts my pride when I recall that day
To think of what the 60's had the 80's took away
I saw the dear old sweetshop where we bought our honeybees
It's now been changed into a takeaway Chinese
And even the old picture house where the gang all used to go
Has since been turned into a roller disco

Chorus:
Whatever the gang and me.
There was Billy Joe, Johnny O, Murphy and McGee
And most of all my old pal, Mulligan, and me

Folks today they talk too fast they've too much on their minds
And always seem to look ahead but never look behind
Life today can be full of fun if you take your time young man
So take advice from one who knows and slow down while you can
The gang and me have such memories would fill your heart with joy
I long to see the golden days when I was just a boy

Whatever the gang and me.
There was Billy Joe, Johnny O, Murphy and McGee
And most of all my old pal, Mulligan, and me

And though the world is changing now where people come and go
I'll not forget my dear old pals nor the ones I used to know
Now every night I lift my glass in memory of those years
And think of all the good old times while I hold back the tears

Here's to the gang and me
There was Billy Joe, Johnny O, Murphy and McGee
And most of all my old pal, Mulligan, and me

Might as well have it here, don't you think? It looks sufficiently folksy, I suppose.

MULLIGAN AND ME
(Roy Taylor)

I took my mind for a little walk round the streets of yesterday,
To all the old places where the gang and I did play,
But deep inside it hurts my pride when I recall that day,
To think of what the 60's had, the 80's took away.
I saw the dear old sweet shop where we bought our honeybees.
It's now been changed into a takeaway Chinese.
And even the old picture house where the gang all used to go
Has since been turned into a roller disco.

CHORUS: Whatever happened to gang and me?
There was Billy Joe, Johnny O, Murphy, and McGee,
And most of all, my old pal, Mulligan, and me.

Folks today they talk too fast. They've too much on their minds,
And always seem to look ahead but never look behind.
Life today can be full of fun if you take your time, young man,
So take advice from one who knows and slow down while you can.

CHORUS: Here's to you, the gang, and me.
There was Billy Joe, Johnny O, Murphy, and McGee,
And most of all, my old pal, Mulligan, and me.

Hey, folks. I've been a fan of the DT for yonks, and now I have a question that I can't find an answer for already. Paddy Reilly did the above-mentioned song, as did, I think, the Dubliners, as well as a couple of artists here locally, but no one I've spoken to in and around here (St. John's, Newfoundland) who knows the song knows who wrote it.

Anyone have any info on this one?

Hi, Andrew -
I moved you over here to the existing discussion, so we don't bifurcate the discussion too much. Hope you don't mind.

Hi all

The Song "Mulligan and Me" was written by my Brother Roy Taylor
He now lives in Dundalk in Co. Louth Ireland

The song refers to our younger days in Crumlin Dublin
The reference to "Honey Bees" is about a little sweet (Candy)sold in Dublin in the sixties it was toffee and you could buy two for a penny.
It had a picture of a honey Bee on the wrapper hence the name.
The "Star Cinema" in Crumlin is the place that became
"A Roller Disco Show" and is is now a Bingo Hall.
Roy is an entertainer still and represented Ireland in the "Eurovision Song Contest" with a band called "Jump The Gun"
His web site is www.roytaylor.ie why don't you visit it and say Hello. Liam.
