If you're interested in canals, boats, beer AND music don't forget about the boat rally at Langley Mill (Great Northern Basin - top of the Erewash) in Notts (UK) this coming weekend. Lots of boats and boaty things plus mini beer festival, the odd boatie folky and maybe a session or two. The Festival is to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the re-opening of the basin following restoration. Information on the British Waterways website.

For any southerners, there's also Canalway Cavalcade at Little Venice near Paddington, London. It's usually well attended by boaters mainly of whom are into folk music. Linda and I are hoping to get there at some point, although I won't have the boat with me.

I notice that this year it's being opened by my old mate Dave Blagrove who is well known (or perhaps notorious) on the cut for his singing and songwriting.

Boatie,
Should that be 'spit in the cut'?
I'm at Sawley on my narrowboat. Give us a shout on chrisnixon@nixonc.freeserve.co.uk

Chris.

Vulgar Boatman - "Mopstick" (Boatie, Boatie spit in the cut) is one of Dave Blagrove's songs.

When you're down the Limehouse Dock
Wipe your nose on a Mopstick
It's a guinea a time and a dose of the ....measles
