I won't consider lasik because it involves current and possible future damage to the eyeball. And this jewel decision is made on a casual basis? These twits trust that these foreign objects won't lead to disease or blindness? Don't let anyone who has one of these implants into a position where they're making any critical decisions regarding your health or life. This adornment shows a lack of good sense on an important and deep level. SRS |

Ah, youthful rebellion. That time when so many would do anything to prove their not really like their parents. Thankfully most folks grow out of the need to prove things. OK, we back slide from time to time but at least we realize we don't necessarily have to do foolish things to prove we are who we are. It's not fear, it's being bored by immaturity. It gets old after a while, that's all. For instance, I understand people are already noticing a rise in the revenue of companies that surgically remove tattos... |

Oddly enough it was also a European practice. Saw examples of ear spools in the Irish National Museum they'd uncovered across Ireland. Gold, of course, like good pierced ear rings. |

09 Apr 04 - 11:59 PM (#1158437) Subject: RE: BS: Eyeball jewelry new Dutch fashion trend From: Chief Chaos AH Clint! You just like to stir up us old fogies don't you? From the safety stand point I'd agree that it would be better to have a decorated 0 correction contact lense. I've seen ones that make you look like you have cat's eyes and I thought the ones with the radiation symbol were pretty cool! The jewelry option is more invasive and harder to reverse without leaving scar tissue on the eye. With all of the other options with decorating the face this one seems too small and expensive to bother with. I still like the idea of having eyes that glow in the dark. Maybe I can get a contact lense for that! |
10 Apr 04 - 12:01 AM (#1158438) Subject: RE: BS: Eyeball jewelry new Dutch fashion trend From: Strick Oddly enough, I know several people who've not only not had their vision corrected from lasik surgery, they've lost their night vision and see halos during the day. No correction to their side effects possible. No one knows the long term impact of the surgery, either. But that's neither here nor there, we each assess the risks of life for ourselves. |

10 Apr 04 - 03:21 PM (#1158700) Subject: RE: BS: Eyeball jewelry new Dutch fashion trend From: Strick Who cast "dispersions"? All that was necessary to assess this issue maturely was to be old enough to have one of those defining moments where you look at an old picture of yourself and realize how ridiculous you used to look when you wore or did x. Sort of a been there, done that, threw away the tee shirt when it got too small sort of thing. |
10 Apr 04 - 03:43 PM (#1158726) Subject: RE: BS: Eyeball jewelry new Dutch fashion trend From: Clinton Hammond " realize how ridiculous you used to look when you wore or did x" What you need to realize is how ridiculous you look NOW, wearing or doing y.... 10 Apr 04 - 05:41 PM (#1158822) Subject: RE: BS: Eyeball jewelry new Dutch fashion trend From: Strick Yes, but now I do it with the knowledge that I don't have to impress anyone else. How ever ridiculous I look doing anything, I'm doing it to be true to myself. You, know, dance as if no one's watching, that kind of thing. Getting one of these things implanted in my eye isn't who I am or have ever been. I can think of better uses of my time, my money and my pain. |
10 Apr 04 - 06:36 PM (#1158850) Subject: RE: BS: Eyeball jewelry new Dutch fashion trend From: McGrath of Harlow "Casting dispersions" would be some kind of spell for getting rid of people. Could be quite handy. " 'Aroint thee, witch', the rump-fed runyon cries...", from the Scottish play, is an example, perhaps. To me this eye thing sounds much more like the kind of thing rich bored 30 somethings, scared of aging (becoming boring old farts) might do, rather than rebellious teenagers. Sticking a safety pin through your ear had a bit of style as a gesture, but going to some high-priced whore of a pseudo-surgeon and getting this stuff done is a bit different. I'd think Dick Greenhaus's notion of getting the same effect with a contact lense sounds much more likely to catch on. Rather the same way a lot of the pierced belly buttons going around aren't in fact pierced at all, I understand. |
