12 Jul 05 - 05:35 PM (#1520837) Subject: BS: Looking for a film forum From: Wesley S I've been looking for a film forum without any luck. Something NOT devoted to splatter movies and run by fans - not a studio. Something with all of the grace, charm and dignity of the Mudcat. Any suggestions ? |

13 Jul 05 - 01:15 PM (#1521180) Subject: RE: BS: Looking for a film forum From: Lepus Rex I occasionally post to the IMDb boards myself, but you really need to have a high tolerance for teenagers to stand it. There are some excellent, intelligent discussions that go on there, but you'll have to sort them out from the thousands of "WHO IS HOTTER:BRAD PITT OR OWEN WILSON???????" and "Is Tom Hanks gay or bi??????. (Hey, what do I know? Maybe you want to answer those questions.) There are boards for discussing films in general, diferent genres, TV shows, awards, even non-film stuff, etc. Plus, each actor, film, and TV show has it's own board. No charm or grace, and very little dignity, but I like it. ---Lepus Rex |
13 Jul 05 - 06:28 PM (#1521332) Subject: RE: BS: Looking for a film forum From: robomatic I have found imdb to be an invaluable source of good information, with a lot of useful cross-indexing to actors, writers, and directors. The boards vary because they are tied in with each particular movie entry, so you end up discussing one film, or even one aspect of a film. But it can be very informative, in particular when one of the principals of the film chooses to join in. For television shows, check out www.jumptheshark.com Good luck |
13 Jul 05 - 06:58 PM (#1521369) Subject: RE: BS: Looking for a film forum From: Big Al Whittle yes it would be nice, how would you keep out the mad characters though - they can't keep them out of the cinemas - the loonies are in the majority in the film world. I mean look at your local UCI, lets face it most of the films are dreadful. at least with folk music, most of us are all right to start off with. I may not like a branch of folk music, but I can appreciate it - the skill and committment involved in producing it. |
13 Jul 05 - 07:09 PM (#1521378) Subject: RE: BS: Looking for a film forum From: McGrath of Harlow I think the trouble with films, as a watering hole where people can meet to talk about films and everything else, is that for virtually all of us, it's a very passive medium - we're lookers in, admirers, critics, fans - but we aren't involved in actually doing it. Whereas with the folk musics there's more of a balance. I'd be interested in hearing if there's a film forum out there which has somehow got it right. If there aren't any it's always possibel to open film threads on the Mudcat... |
