23 Nov 05 - 06:25 PM (#1612378) Subject: Maglan & John back in St Helena From: Mr Red The Princess sent me a Christmas card from the Ascension Islands - which basically said she was 4 days from home and John is surviving the trip - but she sounded weary. By the time I got the letter they would be back. I am sure it is common knowledge that John is seriously ill and they came to Britain for hospital treatment. Maglan is unlikely to be using e-mail so anyone wanting to send good wishes - post here & I can send a print-out by snail mail (6 weeks on the mail boat). Other alias for those who might have seen them at festicvals over the years: Pricess Dinizulu and Prof John, & Saints and Sinners |

I still think that "Rolling home to Saint Helena", the way the Princess simgs it, is the best way to sing that song, rather than to "Dear Old England" or "Dear New England" or whatever. |

27 Nov 05 - 08:33 PM (#1615103) Subject: RE: Maglan & John back in St Helena From: McGrath of Harlow There's a Kipling verse that comes to mind. It's about Napoleon, but never mind that: "How far from St. Helena to the Gate of Heaven's Grace?" That no one knows--that no one knows--and no one ever will. But fold your hands across your heart and cover up your face, And after all your trapesings, child, lie still! John was indeed a lovely man. I hope Maglan will be keeping on singing - I'm sure she will. |
