From: Herga Kitty
Date: 24 Oct 01 - 07:15 PM

There will be a Memorial day for Rod Shearman on Sunday November 11th at Cecil Sharp House in Camden Town, London. Please come between 2pm until 7pm and join with so many friends of Rod to celebrate the life of a truly wonderful man and great songwriter. It's bound to be a great day, with lots of singing and music, as that's what Rod loved best!

Anyone who would like to contribute a song/tune/story, please let Dave and Anni know in advance so they can plan the event, at least loosely.

It will also be the first opportunity to order The Rod Shearman Songbook, which is presently being compiled, and will contain well over 50 of Rod's songs. All the profit from the book will go to charity.

Anyone wanting more information about the day or the book, please contact

Dave Webber & Anni Fentiman DaveandAnni@OldandNewTradition.com

Dave and Anni are also appearing at the Acton Folk club, Kings Head, Acton, on the previous Wednesday.... just got back from seeing Coope, Boyes and Simpson there, it's going to be a great venue for Dave and Anni....

Won't be able to make it but my thoughts are with all and hope you have a good day. If someone sings 'London River' for me it would be great. I'll just and think of the good times I had with the big fella

Have a great day in his honour! Unfortunately I can't make it, as I will be on my way to a holiday in Madiera at the time. But I'm looking to his songbook!

Here's to the frinds that I've yet to meet ...!

I had 'London River' in my head as I committed him to it, if that counts, then it was for you. If anyone has a recording of it, I'd be doubly grateful!

At the risk of drifting off the topic, one nice thing to emerge from Rod's untimely death is that Greta has discovered folk in a big way.
Her first exposure was at Towersey, where we scattered most of Rod's ashes. She admitted being apprehensive - she knew her brother had found a huge amount of pleasure in songs and singers but she'd never tried it herself.
After less than 20 minutes in the barn at the Three Horseshoes she was hooked. I bumped into her at Banbury and she admitted that she was well and truly addicted now!
Thus Rod's tent is getting ready for a new lease of life as Greta hits the festival circuit - which is grand.
And for those who missed John White's wonderful humanist funeral service, there's a transcript here.
