That voice CAN'T be 55. Happy birthday to one of the most amazing singers I've ever heard.

Does Peter T. know about this?

Voice, oh yes, voice, nice voice too. Sorry, where was I....

The fact that catspaw is even more delusional than I am gives me comfort. If I recall my legal training, rights over, in, or with someone else require that they be acknowledged, reciprocal, or enforceable. Catspaw has no such rights in Emmylou. The fact that I am a purer person, and the last time I saw her I am sure that she picked me out from the 2,000 people who were in the auditorium, ought to give me some rights, but for some reason (having to do with a malstructured universe) it doesn't.

Happy birthday, Emmylou. I have still not forgiven those damn Cohen brothers for replacing you with some stupid 20 year old chick in that movie I will not name.

yours, Peter T.

Peter,

I'm not asking you to name a movie, but who was Emmylou replaced by?

I can attest to the fact that she picked Peter out of the crowd a couple of months back. I was hoping it would be me, I saw her make eye contact with Peter and my heart was shattered. I take some solace in the fact that he was seated much closer to her than I was.

Oh, Steve, Steve, how much do I owe you? Anyway, if you recall the movie that shall remain nameless, Emmylou and Alsion Krauss and a third woman I can't recall, were replaced with 3 babes in wet t-shirts (Sirens, hah). That was their voices you heard.

yours, Peter T.

Peter,

I forgot about that scene in the movie that shan't be named (although I kind of enjoyed). In my mind (a pretty remarkable place)Emmylou was one of the sirens, I remember the sound of the scene and I picture Emmy.

I picture her a lot...............voice ain't bad either though.

PT, if Emmylou WAS looking at you in that crowd she was probably thinking, "He's not as good looking as the other guy who sat in the front in Columbus....but they are similar. Both seem to drool a lot........"

and speaking of movies, I got hooked on "The Legend of Bagger Vance" and kept going on and on about what a great life lesson the thing was ans yada-yada-yada........All the time I keep getting this feeling like I know the story somehow. Today, after about the 15th viewing, it hit me like a brick and made me feel like the idiot I am because it took so long to dawn on me what it was based around. Anybody else ever have that happen?

'Spaw,

Bagger Vance???? The Natural on a golf Course. I don't know what it was based on, but it sure wasn't golf. For starters, why would Bobby Jones, who shunned a Pro golf career and was probably the greatest amateur of all time, be interested in participating in a match against Hagen, who he had proved himself against many times, and an unknown? For the purse? Sorry, not Jones. Don't get me started on Bagger Vance.

Now if Emmylou was in it...

Yes he had and Jones in the flesh would have had none of it Steve....But Rannulph Junnah (HINT:R.Junnah) as the hero who is supposed to fight but won't....actually can't. Someone will get it Steve, probably PT I'd be sure.....it ain't about golf.

Although the golfing bits aren't terrible unless we get back into the "stickler for details" crap and whether this is history or entertainment. A few things portrayed the way of things though. Jones had one of the smoothest and most fluid swings in golf history. Hagen spent a career making comebacks from BAD shots......And Savannah is definitely a separate entity from Georgia or Atlanta; Savannah= true Old South.

I just love her version of leaving louisiana in the broad daylight, and the trio that she did with Dolly and Linda, plus she's a Gibson girl.

'Spaw,

Shouldn't be drifting on this of all threads (God Bless Emmylou), but I thought that they did a pretty good job with the details. I may be more fanatical about golf than I am about music, but I thought the portrayals of Jones & Hagen were very good. The equipment, heck even the rules (Stymies, Drops over the shoulder)was well done.

Hagen & Jones are two people I would have loved to have met.

Back to Emmylou.

Alright, I'll bite, Spaw...no, no...not yer arse, darlin'! I went looking for whatever the answer was to your veiled references and found that Bagger Vance is really supposed to be an incarnation of one of the Hindu "Krishnas" according to the fellah who created him, but that doesn't mesh with the R. Junnah hint of yours, so....my knowledge is sketchy and next to nothing about sports, the only "J" I can think of is "Joad" which, of course, has nothing to do with sports....so, anyhow, how about some more drift and ya tell us what in the haitch you are referring to?**BG**

Oh, and as I do not worship in the manner of you EmmylouITES, I beg her pardon for going off on a non-worshipful streak here! Even if it is true, t'weren't for me she wouldn't have this here thread!

(:<)) Bhagavad-Gita

CLICK and then continue with the next 3 pages. I had an advantage kat as I went looking for it through the golfers. Anyway, once I found it, at least I didn't feel totally nuts for thinking it! Bhagavan=Bagger Vance---Rannulph Junah=Arjuna.......

And Steve.....When I first started playing golf, my Dad had several sets of clubs from the 20's and 30's. Naturally, we treated them as "just old clubs" and I used them myself for awhile until I got my first new set......We even cut some of them down for me to use as a kid. Doesn't the stuff you did back then just make you sick? The clubs are of course long gone......just old clubs.........Man they were even engraved with Brassie, Spoon, Niblick, Mashie, etc..............all Wilson as I recall..........

'Spaw,

Fascinating stuff.

Have you read Bagger Vance? I haven't, but I've heard it's very good.

I've been pretty good about respecting clubs. I still have my Dad's '68 Haig Ultras that I learned to play with. Perhaps it was because I played Haigs that I had a real interest in Walter Hagen.

But my buddy. His dad was friends with the late Terry Sawchuk, possibly the greatest goalie ever to play in the NHL. One day the dad comes home with a game used Terry Sawchuk stick and gave it to my buddy. He used it for road hockey until it broke and he threw it away.

Kat, that seems like a knock against Emmylou. Tread lightly young lady.

Kat,

I saw a live Emmylou performance for the first time in February. It was the Down From the Mountain show. I have heard some of her fans say that she can't sing like she did. I just can't imagine her being better than she was that night. I just wish there had been more of her that night. I will say that during the encore that Ralph Stanley was leading and everyone else was "The Choir" I sure heard Emmylou's voice clearly. She is as fine a singer as I've ever heard. I've heard other women with good to great voices, but her feel and timing set her apart.

I've heard other women with great voices too, and they're all on the TRIO albums. Allison K. and Laurie Lewis are creepin' up there, but EMMY LOU STILL RULES! And I'm so pleased to be reminded that I'm not TOO OLD for her.

Steve L., I really meant no offense. I've heard her, recently, too, not in person, but live performance on tv. She still sounds beautiful and I, personally, cannot stand Krauss or any of the other Emmylou wannabes. I guess I am just harking back to my early radio days when I worked at a C&W station, late 70's/early 80's when she was really starting to hit the C&W charts big and my love is for her voice, looks, and performances from that time. That time has a lot of other related fond memories for me, so that's probably clouding my judgement. I know I've never heard such a gorgeous voice as that on a Christmas album I have of her from then.

All hail the Great Emmylou.:-)

Peace,

kat
