Subject: RE: lYRICS TO uNDER THE lOLLPOP TREE From: Kathy Date: 11 Feb 97 - 11:59 AM I remember this one from Columbia's Musical Treasury entitled "Greatest Hits for the Children You Love." I have this old collection from the early 70s on records(!!)but can't play them at this time due to a broken turntable needle. Maybe you can find a copy at the library...it's the first song on record 2, side 1 and is indeed by Burl Ives. Good luck! |

Have you ever heard of the Sugar-Plum Tree?
When you've got to the tree, you would have a hard time
You say but the word to that gingerbread dog
There are marshmallows, gumdrops, and peppermint canes, Also emailed. katlaughing

Subject: Lyr Add: THE LOLLIPOP TREE (Burl Ives) From: Margo Date: 29 Jul 99 - 11:03 AM THE LOLLIPOP TREE As sung by Burl Ives
One fine day in early spring I played a funny trick:
chorus: Ha Ha Ha, Ho Ho Ho, what a sight to see!
Then one day I woke to find a very lovely sight-
Chorus: Ha Ha Ha, Ho Ho Ho, what a place to be!
Winter came and days grew cold, as winter days will do.
Chorus: Ha Ha Ha, Ho Ho Ho, how I danced with glee! There is a CD out of Burl Ives called the Little White Duck and other favorites. I have the original album from which they took the songs, but unfortunately a couple of songs are omitted, one being the lollipop tree. Margarita |

Subject: RE: LYR. ADD: The Lollipop Tree From: Margo Date: 29 Jul 99 - 11:04 AM Hmmm. I cut and pasted this from another thread where I had used the proper line breaks. I see that they don't carry over in a cut and paste. Or did I do something wrong? |
|
Subject: RE: LYR. ADD: The Lollipop Tree From: Wolfgang Date: 29 Jul 99 - 11:19 AM Margarita, the line breaks just do not carry over in a cut and paste. The fastest way is to put them into a word processing programm as MS-Word and give the whole text the 'replace' treatment replacing all 'carriage return's by <br> Wolfgang |

Subject: Lyr Add: THE LOLLIPOP TREE From: MMario Date: 29 Jul 99 - 11:22 AM You did nothing wrong. (To see how to get a line break - look up HTML in the forum...) You just don't know all the little quirks of the 'Cat yet. *grin* THE LOLLIPOP TREE (Joe Darion and George Kleinsinger) One fine day in early spring, I played a funny trick: Right in the yard behind our house, I planted a lollipop stick. And every day I watered it well and watched it carefully, I hoped that stick would someday grow to be a lollipop tree. Chorus: ha, ha, ha, ho, ho, ho, what a sight to see! Me and my lollipop, lollipop, lollipop, lolly, lolly, lollipop tree. Then one day I woke to find a very lovely sight- A tree all full of lollipops had grown in the dark of the night! I sat beneath that wonderful tree and looked up with a grin, And when I opened up my mouth, a pop would drop right in! Chorus Winter came and days grew cold, as winter days will do. On my tree, my lovely tree, not one little lollipop grew. From every branch an icicle hung, the twigs were bare as bones, But when I broke the icicles off, they turned to ice cream cones! Subject: RE: LYRICS REQUEST - The Lollipop Tree From: Cara Date: 29 Jul 99 - 08:30 PM That's te one I was thinking of Kat. I'm anon this week. I get it confused with my other old fave "Wynken, Blynken, and Nod" aand I just thought of another idea: could it be that Lollipop song that Shirley Temple sang? the good ship lollipop? |

Subject: RE: LYRICS REQUEST - The Lollipop Tree From: katlaughing Date: 30 Jul 99 - 04:42 AM I don't think that's the one, Cara, for the lollipop. I love the tune that goes with Wynken etc.! Sounds like you had a nice lunch with Catspaw & Sons. |

Subject: Lyr Add: THE LOLLIPOP TREE (from The Limeliters) From: glsummer Date: 31 Jul 99 - 12:05 AM Well, this is what I have from my very ancient lyrics sheet to the Limeliters LP mentioned above. One fine day in early spring I played a funny trick Right in the yard beind our house I planted a lollipop stick Then every day I watered it well and watched it carefully I hoped one day that stick would grow to be a lollipop tree Chorus: Ah ha ha -- Oh ho ho -- what a place to be Under my lollipop lollipop lollipop Lolli-lolli-lollipop tree Under my lollipop lollipop lollipop Lolli-lolli-lollipop tree. Then one day I woke to find a very lovely sight A tree all full of lollipops had grown in the dead of night Well I sat beneath that wonderful tree and looked up with a grin And when I opened up my mouth a lollipop dropped right in. (Sing Chorus) Winter came and days grew cold, as winter days will do And on my tree, my lovely tree, not one little lollipop grew (cry) From every branch an icicle hung, the limbs were bare as bones But when I broke those icicles off, they turned to ice cream cones.
