Subject: Song Circle at SINSULL's June 27 From: SINSULL Date: 01 Jun 09 - 09:16 AM It's been forever since we all just sat around and sang. So plan on June 27. I will provide wine and beer, beds, and assorted goodies. Who's in? What are you bringing to the feast? You will be required to sing one song we haven't heard before FROM YOU. So get busy. A July Song Circle with Chance and Suzette will be on the 18th - it conflicts with the Press Room shanty sing but maybe some of you can come up to Maine afterwards. |
Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's June 27 From: Nancy King Date: 01 Jun 09 - 12:04 PM Nuts -- I'll just miss it. Have to leave Maine that morning, as my cottage is rented starting that day. Sigh... |
Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's June 27 From: jacqui.c Date: 01 Jun 09 - 12:28 PM Nancy - there are always spare beds around and about if you can mange to stay an extra day. |
Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's June 27 From: curmudgeon Date: 01 Jun 09 - 12:31 PM Haven't cleared it with Linn, but I'm quite sure we'll be there. I actually just finished learning a song I started on forty five years ago. But maybe I'll try to come up with several songs you haven't heard yet from me - Tom |

Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's June 27 From: kendall Date: 01 Jun 09 - 05:17 PM Cranky? I thought I was being quite subtle. With my compromised immune system I simply have to avoid people who have colds. That's taking care of myself. |

Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's June 27 From: TRUBRIT Date: 03 Jun 09 - 11:00 PM Just mark me horribly confused in Portland. I see references to the 18th--the 18th is a Thursday and we don't usually do things on a Thursday? I might be able to be there but will be in Portsmouth all day that day for a course, so might not.........; and there is to be a regular song circle on the 27th at Sins - correct -- we will certainly try and attend that.... |
Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's June 27 From: ranger1 Date: 03 Jun 09 - 11:59 PM The reference to the 18th is for July, Deb. |
Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's June 27 From: TRUBRIT Date: 04 Jun 09 - 12:20 AM Ah ha!!!Tami - that is very helpful.....I did not have it on my calendar but it was just added..... |
Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's June 27 From: SINSULL Date: 04 Jun 09 - 03:00 PM Note to all - be afraid. Be very afraid. I have been "organizing". Each of you will go home with a lovely memento of the evening - maybe a grab bag. And the nun hidden in the closet over the fridge nearly blinded me last night! |
Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's June 27 From: maeve Date: 04 Jun 09 - 03:09 PM Oh, dear, Sinsull. I'd been planning to join you on the 27th; I don't need any of your threatened "lovely memento of the evening - maybe a grab bag." No ma'am, thank you anyway. I'll just sit out in the apple orchard where it's safe. maeve |
Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's June 27 From: curmudgeon Date: 04 Jun 09 - 03:20 PM But maeve, we've just dragged that double "soaker hose" out of the cellar for you - Tom |

Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's June 27 From: Fortunato Date: 05 Jun 09 - 05:56 AM I'm thinking a Maine seafood dinner before the Song Circle on 7/18. Any ideas? Lobster? Clams? Cod? Baked, broiled or fried? |
Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's June 27 From: kendall Date: 05 Jun 09 - 06:20 AM Dunstan School Restaurant, RT. 1, west Scarborough.Full menu. Baked on the spot turkey, ham, roast beef, shrimp, fried clams, baked haddock or sole, and you may have a lobster for another $8.00. Don't go there unless you are famished. The last time we were there the price was $12.00 each, but they may have raised the price for the summer. It's still my favorite restaurant. If all you want is seafood, The Clam Bake, in Pine Point, Scarborough. |

Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's June 27 From: Fortunato Date: 05 Jun 09 - 12:20 PM Captain Kendall, thanks very much for the suggestions, duly noted and underlined in the CRITICAL section of the book Sinsull, I like the way you talk. I'll be happy to contribute and an authentic Maine Lobster Boil is on my 'bucket list'. chance |
Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's June 27 From: jacqui.c Date: 05 Jun 09 - 02:30 PM Both Curmudgeon and Kendall are expert lobster cooks. |
Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's June 27 From: Fortunato Date: 05 Jun 09 - 03:49 PM I can well believe it! And I'll bet they know where to procure those delicious crustaceans, as well. Now if we just knew the words to a lobster-boiling shanty we'd be set. But of course, this being the Mudcat, we do! thread.cfm?threadid=35501#1603379 The Lobster Song |
Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's June 27 From: Guy Wolff Date: 05 Jun 09 - 05:39 PM I am taking My daughter to Portland (Maine School of Art) the next day . Are you near Portland ?? All the best , Guy |
Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's June 27 From: ranger1 Date: 05 Jun 09 - 05:52 PM Guy, SINSULL lives in South Portland, just across the bridge from Portland. And just about 15 minutes from MECA. |
Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's June 27 From: ranger1 Date: 05 Jun 09 - 05:53 PM Oh, and I have a source for lobster once again. Jason's little sister's boyfriend lobsters. I can get them for boat price from Sam. |
Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's June 27 From: kendall Date: 05 Jun 09 - 07:35 PM I'll hypnotize them and Curmudgeon can cook them. |
Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's June 27 From: ClaireBear Date: 05 Jun 09 - 08:06 PM Sob! I'll actually be on the right coast, but the wrong state. I'll wave to you from Ocracoke Island, NC...and I'll sing something, too, but I doubt my voice will carry as far as South Portland. Hugs all round! Claire |
Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's June 27 From: Charley Noble Date: 05 Jun 09 - 08:21 PM Just don't make the mistake of naming the lobsters. Let's just eat them. Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's June 27 From: ranger1 Date: 05 Jun 09 - 10:25 PM Funny you should mention that, Charley. I once did just that about 35 years ago. Haven't been able to eat one ever. Not to mention I can't stand the smell. |
Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's June 27 From: Fortunato Date: 06 Jun 09 - 06:39 AM Kendall, I know I'm going to regret this, in fact I already do, but... How do you hypnotize a lobster? |
Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's June 27 From: jacqui.c Date: 06 Jun 09 - 08:30 AM Wait and see Chance, wait and see........ Claire - with your lovely powerful voice I wouldn't be surprised to hear it in South Portland. Right - we have a song circle on 27 June and a song circle and lobster boil on 18 July, when Chance and Suzette are here. In between we have a John Roberts house concert on 11 July. Life gets busy sometimes! |
Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's June 27 From: stallion Date: 06 Jun 09 - 09:21 AM Ok got to be at one of these legendary lobster boils of Mary's, might have to win the lottery though! |
Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's June 27 From: kendall Date: 06 Jun 09 - 10:12 AM It's very easy and I'd be glad to demonstrate. |
Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's June 27 From: Bat Goddess Date: 06 Jun 09 - 10:33 AM Let's clarify the thread creep a bit -- June 27 is the date of Mary's song circle; July 18 is the date the Shivers will be in lobster-land. Alas, neither Tom nor I can attend the July 18th evening date -- it's the regular third Saturday of the month sea music singaround at The Press Room in Portsmouth -- to come up afterwards (especially with me having to work the next day) is just too much -- and Tom's heart gets cranky about it (as evidenced by the quarterly read-outs of his defibrillator). But...if Chance and Suzette are around FRIDAY evening (July 17th), I will forego the regular weekly Press Room session (Tom doesn't have that luxury as he has to maintain discipline at the session) and come to South Portland after work. I haven't seen the Shivers in four years and have been looking forward to it. All that being said, Tom and I will be there on the 27th, despite Mary's threats of gifts to beware of. (As if it hasn't happened before...but wait til she she's what I've found for HER birthday!) We'll have to take off somewhat early the next morning as I have to open Sears Optical at noon. Linn |
Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's June 27 From: SINSULL Date: 06 Jun 09 - 09:52 PM Speaking of birthdays, Linn. I am set for yours. You may actually like one or two of them. |
Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's June 27 From: Bat Goddess Date: 07 Jun 09 - 10:44 AM Uh, oh... ;-) Linn |
Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's June 27 From: TRUBRIT Date: 08 Jun 09 - 08:41 PM just noticed that John Roberts will be there Saturday July 11 but sadly, not Tom and i....that is the day of the wedding that wasn't and my sister, cousin and bro in law will be here from the UK and i am treating everyone to a night out at DiMillos (tacky I know but great for the visitors). John - I LOVE your singing and am truly sorry to miss......hope you make it to Maine again this year...... Verdict is still out on us for the 27th -- shutting down my entire operations for a week to party with family in early July is going to take some real planing for..... But hope to be there for the lobster and concert night -- the date of which i have now forgotten..... |
Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's June 27 From: jacqui.c Date: 08 Jun 09 - 08:43 PM Deb - can you come for a while later for John? |
Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's June 27 From: TRUBRIT Date: 09 Jun 09 - 09:08 AM Jacqui -- I would love to but honestly don't think I can.....there are 11 of u going out for dinner -- all the kids and SOs are coming and we are not eating til 8 pm so I just don't thiink it will work..... |

Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's June 27 From: curmudgeon Date: 16 Jun 09 - 05:29 PM Now, if we can just get back to the song circle of the 27th, what exotic food stuffs will be in order? |
Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's June 27 From: maeve Date: 16 Jun 09 - 06:18 PM I have a wicked big pile of apples staring at me. maeve |
Subject: RE: Song Circle at SINSULL's June 27 From: Charley Noble Date: 16 Jun 09 - 08:52 PM Just to add confusion to this thread, Alison Freeman and I have booked Barry and Neil(Finn & Haddie) for a concert at the Maine Maritime Museum in Bath on Saturday, July 11, unfortunately the same evening as John Roberts. But we generally don't get anyone from the Portland area to the concerts we have at the Maritime Museum anyway. It's just that we'll be missing John Roberts. Charley Noble |
