On Norman Blake's "Chattanooga Sugar Babe", he plays and instrument I can't readily identify. He also uses it in Weathered Old Caboose.

Help Jim

Jim

Among the instruments that he plays on the album, he lists 6-string guitar banjo and mandolin banjo.

We just got Norman's newest album, "Flower from the Fields of Alabama", and I commented to my husband "Bet he's got more notes about the instruments than the songs..."

Sure enough, there's a detailed description of all the vintage instruments played on each track, but nothing about the origin of the songs themselves...We both laughed; it's like that on all Norman's albums, but he does great songs, great music. I'll get to hear him live at the Birchmere next week!
