Subject: Frank Harte Special From: Martin Ryan Date: 16 Aug 98 - 12:16 PM The "Irish Times" newspaper recently published an article on Frank Harte, one of our finest traditional singers, following the recent release of his CD of songs connected with the 1798 rebellion in Ireland. Its on the on-line version. Have a look! Address: http://www.irish-times.com/irish-times/paper/1998/0815/fea5.html Regards |

Subject: RE: Frank Harte Special From: Frank McGrath Date: 18 Aug 98 - 05:40 PM This is my first visit to "D'cat" in weeks (months even) and who do I find lurking around only Roscommon Ryan, Antaine The Great & Wolfgang of the Hell-o'-a-lot-o'-Songs. 'Tis grrrrrreat to be back.
A translation of Antaine's verse goes something like this; I love Harte an' I think he's "BRILLO". Personally I think Frank Harte is THE best thing since fried bread. And I love fried bread for me breakfast. Be seein' ye all in Naynaa for d'weekend please God. And if you if you want a delicious treat that's even nicer than fried bread - we'll have Aileen O'Connor as a guest on Saturday night. (A most gorrrrrrgeous team mate of Martin's). Friday weel have Hairy Eggs 'n Bacon Barry Gleeson on along with Priscilla "Special K" Skrade. Sunday night will be John Lyons Tea Bags with Niamh of the Creamiest Porridge Parsons. Overall we are guarnteed Curny Cake and Great Sport. G'night and God bless. Frank McGrath |

Subject: RE: Frank Harte Special From: Martin Ryan Date: 08 Sep 98 - 02:28 PM Susan-Marie I think Frank has only reissued "Daylight and a Candle End" on CS - some of his earlier albums are still aroound on tape. Try John Moulden's Ulstersongs (see Links page). He may have them - or be able to get them for you.
Regards
p.s. Of course, if Frank himself shows up here again.... |

Subject: RE: Frank Harte Special From: Liam's Brother Date: 08 Sep 98 - 10:00 PM Thanks, Martin, for pointing out the article on Frank. I will read it tonight. Frank, by the way, is here this Friday and Saturday. For those who're interested, to the best of my knowledge, Frank's earliest recordings were made by Topic, viz. Dublin Street Songs, 12T172 (1967) and Through Dublin City, 12T218 (1973). Alf Edwards (there's a name from the past) accompanies him on some selections on the first lp. I bought these at that time and I doubt they're obtainable except through a specialist like Martin's suggestion, Ulstersongs. Frank's book, Songs of Dublin, Ossian OMB 74, has been reprinted and is distributed by Music Sales (same as Oak Publications). |
Subject: RE: Frank Harte Special From: Susan-Marie Date: 09 Sep 98 - 10:05 AM Thanks everyone. I saw Frank at the Irish Folk Festival in Maryland this past weekend, but the only CD for sale was the new one. |
Subject: RE: Frank Harte Special From: Susan-Marie Date: 09 Sep 98 - 01:25 PM AN update - I didn't find any Frank Harte recordings listed at the Ulstersongs site, although I did not contact John Moulden directly. I did find these two tapes in the House of Musical Traditions catalog at www.hmtrad.com Harte, Frank ; Dublin Street Songs ; OSS027 ; cassette Harte, Frank ; Through Dublin City ; OSS044 ; cassette |
