Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Losing is an easy game From: Peace Date: 16 Nov 05 - 10:14 AM It is on Early Morning Rain, and the full title is (I think) "Maude's Blues (Losing is an Easy Game)". No lyrics seem easily available. I have no time to look further now. Later I will. There was one site that may have had mp3. My machine won't allow mp3s. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Losing is an easy game (Maude's Blues) From: Ron Davies Date: 17 Nov 05 - 10:51 PM I have the record (Early Morning Rain) and I've taped it also. But--can't find the tape--used to play it in the car all the time. And I don't have a working turntable at this point. But soon, one way or the other, I should be able to get those lyrics. |
Subject: Lyr Add: MAUDE'S BLUES (Sylvia Fricker) From: GUEST Date: 17 Nov 05 - 11:54 PM MAUDE'S BLUES (Sylvia Fricker)(1965) Losing is an easy game. Yes, losing is an easy game, Well it's easy to fall And it's so hard to climb, Pretty soon you're falling all of the time, Yes, losing is an easy game. Oh, what can a loser do? Yes, what can a loser do? Oh, the Lord made a loser So a winner can win And that's the spot He put me in, Yes, what can a loser do? Oh, ev'rybody wins sometimes, Yes, ev'rybody wins sometimes. Well when my time comes I'm gonna bar that door, Ain't gonna let my good luck loose no more, Yes, ev'rybody wins sometimes. Oh, when I lost my last round, Yes, when I lost my last round, Oh cradle wood and coffin wood They're all the same to me. They're both carved out of that same pine tree, Yes, when I lost my last round. Losing is an easy game. Yes, losing is an easy game, Well it's easy to fall And it's so hard to climb, Pretty soon you're falling all of the time, Yes, losing is an easy game. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Losing is an easy game (Maude's Blues From: Ferrara Date: 18 Nov 05 - 12:30 AM This is a small thing, but I think the fourth verse goes: Oh, when I've lost my last round, Yes, when I've lost my last round, etc. Slightly different meaning, if you see what I mean. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Losing is an easy game (Maude's Blues) From: Chris in Wheaton Date: 18 Nov 05 - 12:13 PM Always thought that was a really nice chord progression - but never been able to figure it out before. Thanks -- I&S's version of Early Morning Rain, IMHO, was also great because of the chord changes going on - does anyone have those?? I really like doing "Wild Geese" - which is made by the change from C-Am (or whatever key they were in) at the start. Was Ian that knowledgable about chords or was it the guitar player, Monte Dunn or Sylvia? Still waiting for the "rest of the story" after all these years, Thanks for any help available, Chris in Wheaton |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Losing is an easy game (Maude's Blues) From: Ron Davies Date: 18 Nov 05 - 10:26 PM "Early Morning Rain" was a really strong album--for my money every song was good--great storytelling, good gutsy harmonies, spare arrangements. Of course that was early in their career--2nd album?--before they were seduced-- or pressured--into the "Nashville connection", complete with the then-fashionable drums. Interesting how that happens--frequently the first albums are the best--I'd say it's the same with Gordon Lightfoot--"Lightfoot!" was just dynamite--for the same reasons--and there was never another as strong. I suppose it's particularly "less is more". |
